KCMO is probably putting back the indoor mask mandate and they're still having this concert that will be bringing in the unvaxxed masses from the Ozarks?

(98,883 posts)damage from the mass event IF they masking up, (doubtful), and trying to maintain social distances, (also doubtful)
risk verses reward
I don't know the answer

(98,883 posts)offered or not at those events
Of course there would be a window of opportunity for the infection, but not everyone will get infected who attends, and it is for those people where there would be benefit

(38,393 posts)Risks of outdoor transmission are likely less than 0.1%. Virtually all transmission is indoor.

After #1 Lousiana, #2 Florida, #3 Arkansas, #4 Mississipi.
#5 Missouri, #6 Alabama, #7 Oklahoma, #8 Nevada, #9 Alaska, #10 Texas, #11 Kansas, #12 Georgia, #13 S. Carolina
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html
Louisiana is going crazy with a 79 per 100,000 average daily new infection rate, and that number has risen 307% in the last 14 days [1]
Missouri's rise in the last 14 days [1] is 59%
[1] actually the average of the 7 days ending 7/27 compared to the average of the 7 days ending 7/13

(167,160 posts)Remember that those types of events were planned awhile ago and were probably done based on "CDC guidance" at the time, which was basically -
"Ditch the mask if you're fully vaccinated and if you're not vaccinated, well... please please pretty please wear a mask because we can't prove if you are vaccinated or not and well... besides, you should be okay if you are 'outside'".
With the hockey and basketball seasons done for now, the indoor arenas are not really being used that much (other than for concerts or special events, which would be a big concern now). But Delta is going to cause some issues with how to handle indoor arena events going forward.
The Garth Brooks concert in that stadium is outdoors, but it remains to be seen what might happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they do nonsensical "temperature checks" at the door as if that will indicate anything.

They will need to do like we did here (also done in a number of places including NYC) a year ago - "surge facilities" -

But I do hope this will convert some run of the mill anti-vaxxers who got swayed by bad advice on Facebook or elsewhere.
