Harris releases strategy to tackle migration's root causes

Source: AP

By ELLIOT SPAGAT

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday that efforts to address root causes of migration from three Central American countries won’t produce immediate results as she unveiled a broad strategy that avoids detailed targets and deadlines.

Harris said the United States alone cannot tackle deep-seated motives for people to leave Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, including corruption, violence and poverty. The governments of Mexico, Japan and South Korea, along with the United Nations, have committed to joining the push, she said without elaborating.

A one-page letter from the vice president and a fact sheet adhere to previous statements supporting short-term relief for migration pressures like extreme weather while committing sustained attention to long-term motivations for people to leave their countries.

“We will build on what works, and we will pivot away from what does not work,” she wrote. “It will not be easy, and progress will not be instantaneous, but we are committed to getting it right.”

1. Finally, someone doing some actual work and acknowledging the complications in public.

We all need to understand that our elected leaders' job is NOT to stand before cameras, answering inane questions from gotcha seeking, prima donna, wannabe celebrity, talking heads 24/7. In fact, when they're actually performing the functions for which they were elected, they're too busy for that.

It's therefore even more galling how the needia can and does, at it's whim, render politicians ineffective with rumoring and fabricated cycle filler. When, from a defensive posture, contrived by media's appreciation of drama's effect on ratings, the official attempts to update the public on matters of importance that same media drowns out their testimony by simply refusing to publicly understand and accurately reiterate the important matters at hand. Thus we lost our only good chance to be led by the most qualified and intelligent presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson. Hillary, of course.

The murder is recreating itself against Kamala Harris.

3. Meanwhile WaPo has an opinion piece this morning on Biden wasting 100,000 green cards this year.

The writer acknowledges that Trump sabotaged the system and essentially broke the process for issuing green cards, but blames Biden for the slow response to getting the system restructured so that the 100,000 green cards Trump refused to issue can be used before they expire in September. I’m getting fed up with the MSM continued support for Trump and Republicans.

It happened all over Europe, now it’s happening here. These people are leaving because they can’t survive in peace and fed. Until those reasons are mitigated it will be a problem.

Help starts in their home countries, finally someone gets it.👏
