Florida sets a record with 21,683 new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday, the CDC says
Source: The Miami Herald
Saturday, the state of Florida reported more new COVID-19 cases to the Centers for Disease Control than any previous day in the coronavirus pandemic, 21,683.
Thats a jump over the previous record, 19,334, on Jan. 7, during the worst month of the pandemic, when daily case counts were routinely topping 10,000. It was the second peak of the pandemic and in the months following cases returned to average levels of between 2,000 and 8,000 daily cases.
The late half of July is so far looking to be the start of Floridas third COVID-19 peak, as the case numbers reported Thursday (17,093), Friday (17,589) and Saturday mix in with Jan. 6-8 to comprise the top six individual case count days. The average over the last seven days is 15,818 cases.

(3,166 posts)This is awful. Look, Floridians - much of this could have been avoided if you had just elected the better person in your governors election.
I am SO thankful that we had Cooper in charge here in NC instead of McCrory.
NC has its share of anti-vaxxers, but Cooper did a good job in trying to protect the citizens of NC.

(8,724 posts)All those part timer home owners and Floriidiot tourists are thick here. They are bringing that shit here, spreading it to our trumpidiots and Jesus snake handlers. I have many living near me part time, full time homeowners though, and they all flew trump flags during campaign. These are wealthy assholes so its all about taxes to them. Smart enough to know trumps and DeSantans are idiots. But . It smart enough to heed pandemic precautions. I seriously believe WNC will be hit with a huge massive surge from Floridiots. At the grocery store, and a quick trip to the dog bakery down town Waynesville for treats for my two girls and only about 10 percent masked, if that. I wear double masks, always have. Watch the WNC numbers for the next few weeks. Cooper has no control over these Caravans of disease carrying refugees. Too old to rape us though. But they are bringing tons of drugs, old people pharma stuff.

(17,387 posts)I said hell no, Governor Newsom is doing about as good a job as any Governor in the United State in containing the spread of COVID, and god forbid we get a Republican who tries to cater to the crazies by refusing to take any steps to mitigate the virus in order to create the illusion that COVID is still spreading, so come visit Florida.
Sadly, it almost seems like Republican Governors are doing their best to kill their own citizens, so that they can blame Democrats for not doing enough to combat the lies and misinformation spread by Republicans.

(38,420 posts)DeSantis has lost, these numbers are awful. As pointed out in paragraph 2, these are a record
number of cases. He took a stupid stance on this issue, and that position has killed people.
DeSantis will never hear the end of this.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Florida reported 21,683 new cases of COVID-19, the states highest one-day total since the start of the pandemic, according to federal health data released Saturday, as its theme park resorts again started asking visitors to wear masks indoors. The state has become the new national epicenter for the virus, accounting for around a fifth of all new cases in the U.S. as the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus continues to spread.

(62,270 posts)They aren't going to report new cases until people go into the hospital or ER or urgent care while sick. It's going to get far worse, and unless governor mandates are in place it will not go away easily.
