CDC adds seven destinations to 'very high' Covid-19 travel risk list

Source: CNN

France and Iceland are among seven destinations added on Monday to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's highest risk category for travel.

Travel should be avoided to locations carrying the "Level 4: Covid-19 very high" notice, according to CDC guidance. Anyone who must travel should be fully vaccinated first, the agency advises.

The seven destinations added to the Level 4 list on August 9 are:

• Aruba

• Eswatini (formerly Swaziland)

• France

• French Polynesia

• Iceland

• Israel

• Thailand

I just looked to see what case rates are per state. SEVEN states are higher than FL, but they're all among dozens with fairly similarly high rates shown on this graph dated dated 8/9 (a #s worse today):

Travis County is at Level 5–top level before red alert. Maybe the CDC needs to issue alerts for US cities to avoid, though you’d have to live under a rock not to know that any red state is a bad choice.

Frankly, many states in the US should be on no travel list right now.

But that does not include children, and I'm not sure how the West bank and Gaza are counted. But damn, if it is that bad there. It is going to be hell here soon.

Here's an interesting article about the statistics of breakthrough cases.

The visit is some time away. I hope Iceland can avoid a bad infection, whether we go or not.

I was reading their Covid risk yesterday and feel like I had rose colored glasses on.

on getting their population vaccinated. They just couldn't afford to lose another tourist season, especially with the draw of an erupting volcano so near the capital.

Here's a good rundown on hat's happening there: https://grapevine.is/news/2021/08/10/covid-roundup-cdc-puts-iceland-in-highest-risk-rank-domestic-cases-down/

(I recommend The Grapevine as a fun read, it's their English language magazine with video reports online, as well)

especially southern states like Florida. I'm sure several countries have US on their high risk lists.
