Judge delivers blow to Texas Gov. Abbott's ban on mandates; allows San Antonio to require masks

Source: KSAT - Local San Antonio Newscast

San Antonio leaders scored a victory in court against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday in the ongoing fight over mask mandates.

A Bexar County Civil District Court Judge granted the city and Bexar County’s request for a temporary restraining order against Abbott’s executive order banning mask mandates in schools.

Effectively, the ruling allows Bexar County and San Antonio officials to issue a mask mandate in public schools and other guidance like quarantine protocol — for now. Officials say they plan to have an order issued by the end of Tuesday. No details have been released yet on the guidance but officials will hold a live press conference at 6:10 p.m.

The order was granted after an hour-long hearing by 57th Civil District Court with Judge Toni Arteaga.

Thank goodness we have a sane, Democratic mayor in San Antonio. This applies to schools only - article title would not all fit.

But I think Abbutt is losing ground with parents who realize their child’s life may be in real jeopardy.

Some of this stuff is "all about his base"...

Even if the Supreme Court allows a mask mandate, Abbott still looks good to his base.....

I think the mask mandate ban is something that appeals to his base, but is not rooted in common sense...

Abbott could also be sued by a parent.....

to try to kill as many Democrats as possible. Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston are all Democratic cities. I hope the mayors all just ignore Abbott and issue mask mandates for their cities, not just the schools.

If I recall, the court's exact words were, "Bite it, asshole."
