LOS ANGELES Larry Elder, the leading contender vying to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom if he is recalled, appears to have not properly listed his business holdings on a financial disclosure statement designed to reveal a candidates potential conflicts of interests, the Los Angeles Times has found.
Like all candidates in the Sept. 14 election, Elder was required to file a public Statement of Economic Interests that shows his sources of income, business ownership, investments, gifts and loans. The Republican talk show host did not disclose any stake in Laurence A. Elder & Associates Inc., a company he appears to own, experts said.
Elder did list the company as a source of personal income. However, state law requires a separate disclosure of income received by any business in which a candidate holds at least a 10% ownership interest. Sources of income to the business above certain amounts also must be identified.
In response to questions from the Times, a spokeswoman for Elders campaign said, It appears there might have been an oversight. She did not specify further.

(15,325 posts)"Elder, in his first press conference since announcing his candidacy July 12, told reporters that if he replaces Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in the Sept. 14 election, then any mask or vaccine mandates in place at that time will be suspended right away.
He would be a disaster, like Texas's Gov Abbott

We have got to reform this recall provision in CA.
The idea of it has some merit but two recalls of reasonable Democratic governors in 20 year - that stinks.
The prospect of some outsider claiming the office with a 5% plurality when there's a perfectly fit Lt Gov available (Gov & Lt Gov elections are not a ticket in CA) is quite broken.

(13,291 posts)They want to overturn the will of the 7,721,410 California voters who chose Newsom to be governor. His 61.9 percent share of the vote was greater than any Democratic candidate for governor in state history.
Repugs have learned that fewer Democrats vote in the mid-term elections. They see using a recall election as a "do-over" to correct what they see as a grievous wrong i.e., they lost. Since there is no recall provided for president, T***** has had to resort to a coup.

(4,607 posts)#1: Should Gov Newsom be recalled? (yes/no)
#2: Who should take his place?
If a majority of #1's vote are "yes" then Newsom is removed from office and...
get this...
the person who won the most votes for #2 becomes governor.

In my opinion, it's the only way the GOP will ever regain control of California. There's just too many Democratic voters in the state, but the GQP knows that our weakness is usually off-year elections. So they do this.

(29,785 posts)This may just end up being a paperwork error that can be amended and not enough for a scandal. The hosts voted to lock it as not being important news yet
to explain: if theres an official determination about it that impacts the race, that would be important news of national interest.
