Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar declared Afghanistan's new President

Born in 1968, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, also called Mullah Baradar Akhund, is the co-founder of the Taliban in Afghanistan.He was the Deputy of Mullah Mohammed Omar.
Baradar was captured in Pakistan by a team of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officers in February 2010 and was released on 24 October 2018 at the request of the United States.
During the first Taliban rule (19962001), Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar held a variety of posts. He was the Governor of Herat and Nimruz provinces, and the Corps Commander for western Afghanistan.

(5,443 posts)had he lived to this day. Ghani was the co-founder of the Taliban which has only existed since 1994. Ironically the Taliban succeeded in controlling the country from 1996-2001 because they opposed excesses of the former Soviet-fighting Mujahideen like Hekmatyar, who was on of the worst.
