Texas requests five mortuary trailers from FEMA, bracing for more covid-19 deaths
Source: Washington Post
Texas health officials have requested five mortuary trailers from the federal government in anticipation of a possible spike in deaths brought about by surging coronavirus numbers in the state.
The Texas Department of State Health Services made a request Aug. 4 through the Texas Division of Emergency Management to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for five mortuary trailers, agency spokesman Douglas Loveday confirmed to The Washington Post, adding the request was made as a precaution. NBC News previously reported the states request for mortuary trailers.
The trailers will be kept in San Antonio in case any nearby areas need the additional resource, though Loveday said no specific requests have been made. Still, officials are anticipating a potential need for these trailers in the state. Loveday said FEMA had also provided trailers for earlier increases in covid-19-related deaths.
Mobile and refrigerated mortuary trucks were seen as a grim symbol during earlier waves of the pandemic. Trailers were delivered to cities to keep pace with mounting deaths, and in some places they reportedly remained in place as makeshift morgues months into the pandemic.

Now his policies have different requirements.

(172,250 posts)they are going to need more than "5". And TX (along with AZ) went through that routine a year ago with the mortuary trucks, so they know the routine.
As of this past May, NY still had 750 bodies in those units and had received 85 of them during their peak wave a year ago, so it's no joke when it gets out of control.

(25,745 posts)Why are they going through the process of applying to the Federal Government?
Rent'em, buy'em, get it done. I suggest they buy some because they will no doubt need them again in the future.

(72,531 posts)... big enough. The hospitals here are at capacity. They and other towns out here send bodies to bigger cities' morgues. There is a need. It is real. It will get worse as breakout infections start to rise. As the number of children with itstarts growing because there are kids going to school mainly unvaxxed, we'll need a lot more refrigerator trucks.
Like it or not, we are in this together. This is the time we all have to be the best we can be. We do not want to start reflecting them, now do we?
