Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Blames Black Community, Democrats For COVID Spread
Source: Newsweek
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is speaking out regarding the rise of COVID-19 in Texas and placing the blame on various communities within the region.
In an interview with host Laura Ingraham of Fox News show The Ingraham Angle, Patrick placed blame on the Democrats and African American community as to why the numbers are so high in the Lone Star state.
"Most of the numbers are with the unvaccinated and the Democrats like to blame Republicans on that," said Patrick. "Well, the biggest group in most states are African Americans who have not been vaccinated. The last time I checked over 90 percent of them vote for Democrats in their major cities and major counties, so it's up to the Democrats to get just as that it's up to Republicans to try to get as many people vaccinated."
Patrick ended his statements by saying he respects the rights of people who don't want to get the vaccine and it won't be forced, but nothing is being done to the African American community "that has a significantly high number of unvaccinated people."

So, let me get this straight. Texas's Republican leaders who wanted to outlaw mask and vaccine mandates, and whose LT. Governor famously suggested at the start of the pandemic that old people should be volunteer to die to protect the 401Ks of their grandchildren, and who control control all Statewide levers of power in Texas, and who are making it harder than ever for African Americans to vote and for Democrats to win, blames African Americans and Democrats for the uncontrolled growth of COVID-19.
Yup, when in doubt, just blame Democrats, minorities and immigrants for every problem.

Already received 1 dose: Black adults 65%, Men (of all ethnicities) 63%, White Evangelical Christians 60%, Republican 54%.
There are many groups with lower rates than Blacks, several of which Patrick belongs to himself.

(9,982 posts)In early August, the vaccinations rates for Blacks and Hispanics were 28% and 35%, respectively. In Texas, Black people make up around 14% of the population and most vote for Democrats, with moat of them living in or near the major cities. Hispanics make up around 40% of the population, and many of them live in the rural areas that vote Republican. Patrick and other Republicans do not dare blame Hispanics for spreading the virus. They need their votes.

(11,915 posts)"Most of the public discussion of vaccine hesitancy is dominated by Republicans behaving badly, the clownish people who think vaccines will magnetize them or let Bill Gates track their movements.
But beyond political party, race (along with age) has emerged as a major predictor of skepticism. A recent Economist/YouGov poll found that less than half of Black and Hispanic adults have been fully vaccinated, compared with well over 60 percent of white ones. And mistrust is a major reason, though not the only reason, for that disparity."
