Pentagon confirms second explosion near Kabul airport and "a number of US and civilian casualties"

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby confirmed that there was at least one other explosion near the airport, this at or near the Baron Hotel.
He said he can confirm that the explosion at Abbey Gate was a "result of a complex attack that resulted in a number of US & civilian casualties."
Note: The term "casualties" can refer to those wounded or dead.

(1,910 posts)It was their only shot at getting maximum effect and media coverage. Intelligence had been warning for days this was coming. I doubt anyone thought they could get right near the airport though.
But it looks like the US military did not account for a sewage canal near the gate. Thats how they got so close to the airport.
Pretty much worse case scenario for the administration as far as the hyberbolic media.

(55,129 posts)Taliban negotiated withdrawal in bad faith, doesn't entirely have control of its organization, or is aiding whichever outside force might be opposed to the Biden Adminstration's withdrawal. Call me paranoid.
