Mike Richards is out as producer of 'Jeopardy!' and 'Wheel'

Source: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mike Richards is out as executive producer of “Jeopardy!”, days after he exited as the quiz show’s newly appointed host because of past misogynistic and other comments.

Richards is also no longer executive producer of “Wheel of Fortune,” according to a memo to staff that was confirmed by Sony, which produces both of the shows.

“We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. That clearly has not happened,” Suzanne Prete, an executive with the game shows, said in the memo.

With the black marks in his history he should've just kept his day jobs, at which I'm sure he's well compensated. But I guess he wanted to be a star.

The choice of Mayim Bialik as the first woman host is also questionable because of her controversial views. She may not last as well, now that they've bitten the bullet and ousted Richards from not just host but of his executive producer gigs.

Wall Street Journal is reporting that's what cost KJ the hosting job. He'd be put through the ringer also.

https://www.vulture.com/2021/08/jeopardy-ken-jennings-lost-host-job-due-to-past-tweets.html

The Wall Street Journal reports that the show’s golden boy, Ken Jennings, was set to be Alex Trebek’s host successor for the game show, only to lose the gig after old tweets resurfaced from his social-media account in late 2020. The tweets, which Jennings described as “unartful and insensitive” in an apology, included a widely circulated joke from 2014, which read, “nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair.”

Disappointing but nobody surprises me anymore with their “how low can you go” thoughts on social media.

Can we please give Bobcat Goldthwait a shot at hosting now?

However most of the fans of these shows are "old people" like us seniors and retirees. (I can say this because I'm a retired senior.) Once Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune go off the air, TV will find something to replace them with and we'll all move on. It would be the end of an era.

There's a cable channel called "Game Show Network" and they play old reruns of game shows 24/7/365. I kid you not, old Match Games and Hollywood Squares shows from the 60s and early 70s, and God-knows-what-all. I believe that's where the Jeopardy and Wheel shows will end up eventually.

That aside, I don't think there was ever a real consideration of other host candidates. Richards had the inside track from the very beginning. See how that worked.
