No vaccines to be required for MU students

KANSAS CITY — The University of Missouri campuses will not mandate COVID-19 vaccinations following a 5-3 vote Thursday by UM System Board of Curators to prohibit any such measure.

The resolution prohibits such a mandate for the majority of students, faculty and staff. However, the decision does not affect those who were already required to have vaccinations, including some workers who interact with patients in health care or clinical environments, officials said.

Darryl Chatman, chair of the Board of Curators, said the decision was a matter of "individual liberty" and "freedom" for university students and employees to make their own decisions about their health.

Such sentiments were echoed by the curators in favor of the resolution.

“I’m a believer in the vaccine, to be clear, and I believe we should encourage, and this board has even incentivized, vaccinations," said Jeffrey Layman of Springfield. "But I do not believe we should mandate the vaccine. I think the faculty, staff and students can make their own personal decisions better than we can."

many students, staff and faculty will get infected and have to be quarantined. And who knows, the campuses may have to be shut down.

Just dumb. They decide this this way while many other large universities are requiring proof of being vaccinated.

Suits may follow.

Our youngest attends there, 3rd week starting. Dropped her off, NO masks anywhere, on anyone. Weird. We wore ours. Made daughter bring some, “just in case”.
NO vaccination requirements there either. Hell they didn’t even ask IF students got vaccinated. We all are fully.
2nd week one of her classes went online only. 3 days later, another one. Masks are now required, in classes and around campus. Campus president stated, “OSU is a state school, so we follow the Governor last statement”.
Daughter loves masks, especially in the lovely 95+ heat as she describes it.
