A leader of the Portland Proud Boys was shot in the foot during an anti-COVID protest in Olympia, Washington, social media reports show.

Live-streamers covering the protest against COVID-19 mandates near Washington’s state capitol showed Tusitala “Tiny” Toese bleeding from the foot or lower leg after five gunshots rang out in the mid-afternoon hours of Saturday, Sept. 4.

It’s unclear who fired the shots that struck Toese, though the right-wing Proud Boys had been pursuing black-clad figures called antifa, a left-wing movement, in the minutes before the shooting.

Earlier in the day, counter-protest supporter Alissa Azar said she was physically attacked and maced by Proud Boy members. The incident wasn’t captured on camera but a video shows several right-wingers dressed for combat calling out her name and then the sound of a woman screaming. ........................................

My friend moved out to Oly about 3 years ago. Her daughter was at Evergreen State, but dropped out and has been doing this "trashpunk" thing with her friends. She's just the type that would be protesting the Proud Boys.

I saw some video from a RW source (Andy Ngô's Twitter) from seconds after Toese was shot (video includes sounds of the shots fired)... he had a big plexiglass shield in his right hand and a long stick in the right, so unless he somehow had the presence of mind to get rid of his gun and pick up a stick before walking away saying he'd been shot, it seems very unlikely to have been self-inflicted.

That said, I have zero sympathy for him, and this was the end of an afternoon that featured a gang Proud Boys attacking a lone woman journalist with bear spray. If the police have any reason to be, it's to round up these hooligans. The fact that they don't is telling.

Shot in self-defense by one of the people the Proud Boys were chasing.

At about 10 second the eventual shooter is attacked by a stick and shield wielding Proud Boy. They stumble into some bushes as most of the group heads to the bus. This straggler gets some distance from the PBs and turns, takes five shots of which at least one hits "Tiny" (also carrying a stick and shield).

I think shooting gave the group enough time to make good their escape.
