DHS seeks contractor to run migrant detention facility at Gitmo, guards who speak Haitian Creole

WASHINGTON — As it scrambles to deal with the surge of Haitian migrants at the southern border, the Biden administration is seeking a private contractor to operate a migrant detention facility at the U.S. naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, with a requirement that some of the guards speak Spanish and Haitian Creole, according to government records.

A little-known immigrant holding facility on the base has a capacity of 120 people, the records say, and it "will have an estimated daily population of 20 people," according to a solicitation for bids issued Friday by the Department of Homeland Security.

"The service provider shall be responsible to maintain on site the necessary equipment to erect temporary housing facilities for populations that exceed 120 and up to 400 migrants in a surge event," the contract solicitation says.

Wish I had confidence that someone's thinking about things like this; this is the worst, imo, after, of course, guys recently on horseback.

to house extra-judicial prisoners (that we shouldn't even have) just so they won't be on American soil! Shut down that stain on America's international reputation!

Can we just ask for American sponsors, and we pay that home monthly. Isn’t that cheaper?

might reveal the fear of the image of large numbers of Haitian immigrants entering the US. It might also show the determination to make it 100% clear to Haitians that not only will they be unsuccessful in entering the US, but by trying, their situation may become worse.

Also, perhaps the administration is being influenced by what is happening in Europe:

EU member states have used illegal operations to push back at least 40,000 asylum seekers from Europe’s borders during the pandemic, methods being linked to the death of more than 2,000 people, the Guardian can reveal.

In one of the biggest mass expulsions in decades, European countries, supported by EU’s border agency Frontex, has systematically pushed back refugees, including children fleeing from wars, in their thousands, using illegal tactics ranging from assault to brutality during detention or transportation.

Frankly I think the Biden administration's policy is in-line with mainstream American views, and that might explain everything.
