Manchin signals he won't support filibuster carve-out for debt hike

Source: the hill

By Jordain Carney - 10/06/21 11:44 AM EDT

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said on Wednesday that he remains opposed to changing the Senate’s legislative filibuster, dealing a blow to progressive hopes to use a rules change as an escape hatch from a fight over the nation's borrowing limit.
...........................

Manchin, speaking to reporters, argued that it’s time for Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to start negotiating.

McConnell and Schumer have not been negotiating on the debt ceiling.

“I truly implore both leaders ... to engage, start working, work this out,” Manchin said.

“We have a responsibility to be the adults... we should not have these artificial crisis,” he added. “Please lead, lead, work together.”

What do we have to trade? They seem convinced that a shutdown will be blamed on Democrats and that our only option to avoid a shutdown (reconciliation) gives them a win.

Trump will be on the ticket in 2024, and WV has become redder and redder. Manchin won his last race by only a small margin.

I’m really fed up with Manchin’s attitude. He and Sinema are just as obstructionist as the Republicans. I hate describing Democrats this way, but neither of them is being loyal to Biden or the Party that helped elect them.

"dealing a blow to progressive hopes to use a rules change as an escape hatch from a fight over the nation's borrowing limit."

So no,
Democrats?
Moderates?
Centrists?

The wording in the article is a lie.

There are Dems, Mods & Centrists & progressives who are all on the same page in the debt ceiling matter.
At least give credit to all those under the Democratic Party & stop with the pandering to an exclusive group.

Thanks

Republicans, aided by DINOs like Manchin and Sinema, playing political games with the world economy. If my social security checks stop I'm screwed.

Justice system works in geological time. The rich boyz thumb their noses at the law.

American democracy, my home, is stumbling around on the edge of a cliff. And the same people are playing games.

Pandemic continues to rage in my state. And the same people are playing games.

It's all theater. But not for me.

Mansion wants the Democrats to use the reconciliation up to solve the "crisis". Two birds - One stone for him. How about getting McConnell to STOP blocking it? Mansion is posturing like there is some negotiation for this. The GQP isn't asking for anything. They are just being petulant children and he is giving them cover.

The coal turd and his corporate senator with the curtsy are the worst freak'n negotiators on the planet! Why don't they just SHUT UP. Schumer cant even bluff this - if they keep running their mouths and doing op-eds.

I think both bills are effectively dead. After the economy takes a crap because of their malfeasance, Democrats should build one infrastructure bill with some perks and wrap it into the reconciliation bill. If the parliamentarian chokes on it, fire the person and move on. We need to start posturing on this immediately. Make the GOP and corporate Democrats go on record and VOTE against it. You can see GQP gearing up to run on "tax and spend" Democrats again.. Wrap this obstruction around their damn necks. Trillions in tax cuts for the rich, but NOTHING for the middle class.

If Mansion and Cinema only care about their infrastructure bill, then we need to kill it. Take it off the table. The long post by Senator F-Off was a tell. She was trying to get her way around the reconciliation bill, failed and threw a tantrum. She was going to have a celebratory rally with her corporate masters at the posh AZ resort and Joe/Progressives dashed her plans. She dreams of being this great bipartisan negotiator and she could not even persuade her own party. Did she even try? Seems like she just blew them off. KS is demented and i now fear she will never agree to anything. It is just a matter of time before her team starts floating leaks regarding her defection to the GOP. If Breyer gave more consideration to the country vs. his last chance grab at relevance, he would retire and we would get a sane justice in place asap. With Dem sh1t show in Senate and Cinema melt down, it would probably be easier to run away from "Dems control everything" fantasy. Cinema flakeing off to GQP could make the Senate apathy much clearer to the electorate. Would it help in individual races? Probably not, but it could help with national mood and turn out.

two jerks are the only Ds obstructing the debt ceiling rise it will be known far and wide that they are the reason (along with the Rs) that the US went into default.

Also, the polls I've seen show an 80% or more WVA population in favor of BBB. So why are people saying that Manchin is the only D who could be elected in WVA? An 80% approval of BBB sounds like enough of the population would vote for a different D and not R.
