Bannon to defy subpoena from January 6 committee as Trump urges defiance, sources say
Source: CNN
At least two associates of former President Donald Trump have responded to the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection -- with one saying they intend to defy the subpoena, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
Steve Bannon has informed the House committee investigating the US Capitol riot that he will not cooperate with their subpoena to provide related documents, according to a source familiar with the matter. The source characterized Bannon's response as saying he "stands with Trump."
Another source confirmed Bannon responded, as did former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The source would not characterize Meadows' response. It is not clear if the two others -- Kash Patel and Dan Scavino -- have responded.
The four associates were sent subpoenas by the House select committee. All four were also sent letters from Trump's attorney on Wednesday advising them he intended to defend what he viewed as an infringement of executive privilege.

Garland is a quiet judicious man...he knows what he's doing...he's allowing the process to go forward...let's see if the House committee has the "balls" to walk the walk and arrest and jail those subpoena-defying assholes...SDNY is actively going after Trump, Trump's reptilian spawn, and his businesses...Georgia is pursuing Trump's election interference...we have to let this play out...Garland will step in when he knows the time is right because when he swings he can't afford to miss

They have prison uniforms up to 10XL. Somewhere in their extensive product line you will find clothing perfect for Bannon to testify in.

(50,552 posts)Please understand: I cannot fucking STAND Steve Bannon. I think the guy spends his time in bed dreaming of the felonies he plans to commit the next morning. But I want Trump in jail worse, so it might be advantageous to immunize his testimony, which erases Fifth Amendment protection.
If they do immunize him, there are two safeguards: if you refuse to testify after being immunized you can be charged with contempt, and if you lie on the stand you can be charged with perjury.
The alternative is to forget Bannon and go straight for Trump.

(7,876 posts)to the arresting officers. Bannon and Meadows had previously said on the record they would not obey Congressional Subpoenas.
I know due process is required but the warrants could have been sworn on the condition that they did not comply and served upon denial of the subpoena. Bannon probably has an escape plan complete with Russian passport and visas to at least 6 "friendly" countries.
These men are not going to play by the rules or comply with the law and should be treated as such. I think we are showing far too much civil restraint when dealing with them. Were they working for John Gotti the approach would be very different. They are known thugs at at least one is a convicted felon.
Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
(107,881 posts)The House select committee probing the deadly Capitol riot said Friday it could soon advance a referral to hold former Trump advisor Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress over his refusal to comply with a subpoena.
Bannon, who departed then-President Donald Trump's White House years before the Jan. 6 invasion of the Capitol, "has indicated that he will try to hide behind vague references to privileges of the former President," the House panel said in a statement.
"Though the Select Committee welcomes good-faith engagement with witnesses seeking to cooperate with our investigation, we will not allow any witness to defy a lawful subpoena or attempt to run out the clock, and we will swiftly consider advancing a criminal contempt of Congress referral," said the statement from Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Vice Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.
It is unclear how soon the select committee could push a criminal contempt referral forward. When a person defies a congressional subpoena, the House can certify a contempt citation to the executive branch for criminal prosecution.

Bannon to defy subpoena from January 6 committee, citing Trump's 'direction'

Bannon cites Trump's 'direction' in defying subpoena
(CNN)Steve Bannon will not cooperate with the House select committee investigating January 6, his lawyer said in an email obtained by CNN that cites former President Donald Trump's claim of executive privilege.
Bannon's attorney told the committee that "the executive privileges belong to President Trump" and "we must accept his direction and honor his invocation of executive privilege."
The letter from Bannon's legal team goes on to say it may be up to the courts to decide whether he is ultimately forced to cooperate -- essentially daring the House to sue or hold him in criminal contempt.
"As such, until these issues are resolved, we are unable to respond to your request for documents and testimony," wrote the lawyer, Robert Costello...........
