Sen. Schumer blasted Republicans after the debt-ceiling reprieve. He was criticized for it by Sen. Manchin.
Late Thursday, after the Senate passed a bill to raise the nations debt ceiling through early December, temporarily staving off a potential government shutdown and default, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) took to the Senate floor to praise the move and to blast Republicans for what he described as a risky drama.
Republicans played a dangerous and risky partisan game, and I am glad that their brinksmanship did not work, Schumer added. For the good of Americas families, for the good of our economy, Republicans must recognize in the future that they should approach fixing the debt limit in a bipartisan way.
Schumer urged the Senate to adopt a long-term solution so that it would not have to go through the same situation every few months.
But Schumers speech also rubbed one fellow Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), the wrong way.

(8,709 posts)The only thing I can see that will benefit us to have the fight in December., is loss of revenue for business. Last year during Xmas season, people avoided going out to shop, but did go nuts online. So businesses survived. If we default this December on debt ceiling being raised to pay bills, and Federal Paychecks, Social Security and other federal cash flow for consumers comes to a stand still, even online spending can not happen. So my thought is, big business will not be so willing to have a second holiday Christmas season not bring in profits they depend on through the biggest spending season of the year. Business may slap ole Mitch for his gaming with their cash flow.
And talk about war on Christmas, baby Jesus and Bill ORielly will be doing some serious crying. The Fox white Jesus and white Santa wont be happy either. Merry holidays and Happy Christmas to all ya.
