(17,821 posts)who broke up the band. John was already a bit of a contrarian, and it seems to me that he probably used Yoko as an excuse, intimating that the rest of the band were disrespectful to her. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

(43,456 posts)Altho the different styles and change in musical direction over time would indicate that the real issue was probably ego (all of them went quite separate ways). And anything put together sooner or later falls apart.

(18,785 posts)I am thankful for the time they were together. They broke up more than 50 years ago.

(196,495 posts)21 albums in 7 years. If you jump to Rubber Soul which was the beginning of their actual album stage its 9 in 4 years basically.

(18,785 posts)We had a car for a few years that had free Sirius radio and the Beatle station.
I was able to opt out of Sirius automatic renewal ( not easy ) and they never cancelled.
Hope the current owners of the car appreciate it.

(579 posts)in such a short time. Yes, I'm grateful too, especially when I'm listening to something fairly new and hear out of the blue a definitely Harrison-influenced guitar lick.

(4,981 posts)Seriously?
OK, I saw them as a unified group. I didnt really pay attention to them as individual musicians and wasnt knowledgable about the group dynamics. At least while they were still a group.
Years later, as individual musicians, I found I didnt like Paul McCartney. Always felt he was a bit stuck on himself.
Now he comes out and says this now that John cant defend himself.
Paul still being the classy one

(39,652 posts)I was not yet 6 years-old when this happened, so I can't say as any of it has made a profound effect on my life.
George is my favorite of the Beatles anyway.

(10,909 posts)Paul had said it for some time after John passed and maybe before.
John, back when, described it like a cartoon. 1st pic, the four standing together on stage. 2nd pic, John is walking off the stage. 3rd pic Paul, George & Ringo are standing on the stage and Paul says "I'm leaving".
Lennon told them privately. Some months later Paul issued a press release to say he wasn't working with the Beatles. Something like that.

Was it the original Album of Sgt. Peppers?

(13,848 posts)They worked their asses off putting out a huge amount of music in a very short time, they were surely all suffering from burnout.
In one documentary one of them (I believe it was John but can't remember for sure) was quoted as saying they were getting sick of the changes in the recording process. Something to the effect that all he really wanted to do was play music with his friends and fellow bandmates, but when they go in the studio they were shoved into separate soundproof rooms so the record company engineers could get a "better" sounding product.
In any case, they made a shit-load of great music and changed the music world in a huge way.

(77,323 posts)You can hear it @ the start of this song. I remember hearing John saying George wanted out and
I think I remember reading or hearing the same thing from George himself.
They had been playing together since 1956 (Ringo came on board later 1961 or 1962 because George
Martin knew he was an upgrade. Matter of fact Richard Starkey was the most successful working
musician of all 4 of them when he was brought into the band) and egos, feelings, and other people
all got into the mix. I see no point in trying to assign blame for the break up now.

(38,727 posts)Back then, the labels basically worked the bands to death. 2 albums a year, singles in between, constant touring. Most anyone would get burned out, and the Beatles were in the biggest pressure cooker of any band in the world.
Imagine if their label & management had just said "you all need a break; let's reconvene in 1972 and see how we feel. If that doesn't work, how about 1975?"
Martin68
(27,749 posts)spouting off about nothing. The Beatles were ready to break up. Period. They didn't get along anymore and couldn't agree on anything. Paul sounds like a whining middle schooler miffed that he was disrespected by a former friend.

(23,175 posts)When the break-up happened, my group of friends thought it was John Lennon's relationship with Yoko Ono that broke up The Beatles. The Beatles were a huge part of our lives, when they became stars, when they dominated the charts, when they broke up. For a long time, I thought it was only John Lennon and Yoko Ono who broke up the group. I understand now that it was a complex relationship, like the music industry is complex with its relationships and collaborations.
