A man died after driving onto a sidewalk in attempts to strike pedestrians before bystanders pulled him out of the car and allegedly attacked him in California Saturday.
The driver was involved in a verbal altercation around midnight inside a business in Hawthorne, after which he was asked to leave, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) said in a news release. Hawthorne is about 15 miles from Los Angeles.
The man left but returned and drove his truck onto the sidewalk, nearly hitting multiple people, according to the release. He eventually lost control of his car and struck a tree.
Bystanders then tried to pull the man out of his truck but he was able to speed away before crashing into a building. The bystanders then pulled him out the car and a "physical altercation ensued," the release said.
"Hawthorne Police officers saw the driver lying on the ground, suffering what appeared to be blunt force trauma," the LASD said. "Paramedics provided life-saving measures, but he was pronounced deceased on scene."

(673 posts)How about the 16 y.o. who hit the 6 cyclists in Texas after "rolling coal" at them? Perhaps the perps will consider their actions if they're going to face vigilante justice.

Still nasty, still violent, still an intentional assault.

(3,407 posts)We are becoming a Neanderthal society, so much hate, so much violence, and none of it makes sense.
Very sad indeed...Something has to break, the so called rule of law must fall upon those who have created this atmosphere of hate and violence.
I was reading about a case that happened in Venezuela, this guy had been committing crimes in a barrio, the barrio became so upset that one day they caught him, they tied him to a post then burned him alive...Is that where we are going?

(12,651 posts)I remember 60 Mins did a story YEARS ago about a guy in some town in Missouri. He was a menace, bully, you name it. The cops were even scared of him apparently. And one day he was dispatched right in the middle of town. Nobody saw anything.

(17,086 posts)I can see everyone involved going too far. The article doesn't say cops were involved, just an out-of-control individual who kept on coming. If he died by someone's hand, there are probably phone videos or security footage, and people will get charged.
Remember the Luby Restaurant mass killing in 1991? That mass shooter drove his truck through the front window of the restaurant and killed 23 people and wounded 27 more. I don't want to see mob violence like this, no one does, but when people are seeing mass killings over and over, I can see a breaking point and a kill-or-be-killed reaction happening more and more often.
Recently here, a man shot at his wife. I just heard that he was in a local business after trying to shoot her and before the police arrested him. He was belligerent and demanding service. One of the employees was able to calm the guy down and get him to exit the building without incident. Unfortunately for the dead person in the o.p. there was no one involved who had the presence of mind to try talking.

(12,225 posts)I was making a point: that if this happened to white MAGAs they would be let off. So, if the bystanders were Hispanic, they will most likely be charged.

(22,191 posts)attempts to hit protesters/pedestrians (due to some provocation at an earlier business) because they obviously have anger issues among other things. This is seemingly so typical of a trump mob.
Regardless of the truth of the matter, regardless of the actual facts on the ground, regardless if all are innocent, MAGAs will drive their massive weapons of choice into crowds, trying to inflict as much bodily damage to others before they are caught or whatever, more concerned w/ obtaining the adorning gazes of trump and the trump mob for their carnage.
What indeed, perilous times we live in. Be safe all.

(25,710 posts)Santos was fighting with bar patrons and asked to leave. They were fighting outside. He got in his vehicle, then drove toward the people he was fighting with, then hit a tree, then hit a building. Then the people he was fighting with pulled him out of the vehicle.
At some stage, it is claimed that Santos lost control of his car and collided with a tree. That was the point at which the LASD say a group outside the bar attempted to pull him from the vehicle.
"Surrounding patrons attempted to take the driver out of the vehicle, but the driver was able to accelerate and drove his truck into a nearby building," a statement given by the department to the news outlet said.
"Patrons again took the driver out of the vehicle, and a physical altercation ensued, at this time Hawthorne police officers arrived on scene."https://www.newsweek.com/california-melguin-lopez-santos-beaten-death-hawthorne-1637474

(99 posts)Sure the man was definitely wrong in trying to run over pedestrians because he had anger issues. But the people who beat him to death also have anger issues. When a person is beaten to death there is lots of blood. I cannot fathom hitting, kicking, punching, stomping someone until they die - even if he did try to run over me.
Nothing wrong with them yanking him out of the car and holding him until police arrive, which I think they should have done. They were a lawless mob.
We, as a society, are teaching our children to be lawless as well. Look at the political climate. Folks are ignoring subpoenas! And nothing is going to be done about it. I cannot wrap my head around this fact. There was a time when a subpoena meant you were summoned and you had to go or you would sit in jail until you complied. It was just that simple. That is the law of the land. Well, it used to be the law of the land. Now a subpoena doesn't mean anything. Folks will go on national TV and say, "I'm ignoring it." This is what are children are learning now about the law of the land. It means nothing.
Whatthe_Firetruck
(558 posts)...we can rely on the law to do what it's supposed to do; deter and punish crimes.
But men are mudered over loose cigarretes, and given an impromptu firing squads for running away frightened. The police have becone judges, juries and executioners, then excuse themselves that it's justified, and are let go to do it again and again. And the courts give favorable outcomes directly proportional to a participant's wealth, right or wrong, and fail to punish the guilty.
We give up our natural rights & instincts to defend or punish for ourselves because it so hard to do fairly. So we give over these functions to systems of enforcement and justice so that all may be treated fairly. But we haven't been treated fairly, and more and more we know it. As individuals and a society it's transactional: we (the people) - don't pursue and punish wrongdoers ourselves IF you (law enforcement & courts)- do it in our stead.
When we have given up more than we gain, there will be a breaking point and some will turn to anarchy. A socity under a corrupt system will feel more and like we are under an occupying force, of our fellow citizens.
