Jon Gruden has resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after emails he sent before being hired in 2018 contained racist, homophobic and misogynistic comments.
Gruden released a statement Monday night, saying: I have resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. Im sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.
He stepped down after The New York Times reported that Gruden frequently used misogynistic and homophobic language directed at Commissioner Roger Goodell and others in the NFL.
Special teams and assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia will take over on an interim basis.

(4,392 posts)I dont know if you saw his Netflix special
and yes, he said some offensive things about LGBTQ
but his point was that people are allowed to be racist nowadays, but not homophobic
.Gruden was going to survive the racism, but what did him in was the homophobia.
Edit - both are despicable and you shouldnt be either

(14,753 posts)He'd have gotten away with the homophobic/misogynist stuff, too, with the excuse that it was so long ago, blah blah blah. But when you call the commissioner a "pussy" and disparage owners, Goodell isn't going to let it stand.
There are also suggestions that one of the owners he criticized is the one that currently employs him and the NFL was ready for those emails to be leaked if Gruden hadn't gone bye bye.

Is Roger Goodell a lesbian? What kind of writing is this? Am I missing something?

(12,046 posts)Thus the misogyny and homophobia. One wonders if these emails would have seen the light of day if it hadn't been directed at the commissioner of the NFL...
