Republicans rally around possible Trump 2024 bid as they downplay his role on January 6This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). Updated 8:12 AM ET, Wed October 13, 2021 (CNN)Nine months after the attack on the US Capitol, Republicans in Congress are defending Donald Trump's role on January 6 in some of their strongest terms yet -- and signaling he'd have widespread backing from the party if he ran for president again in 2024. Republicans from across the conference -- including some who are vulnerable in next year's midterms or have long been seen as part of the establishment wing of the party -- are expressing little to no reservations about the prospect of Trump topping the ticket again, even as he continues to spread the same election lies that led a mob to storm their place of work. Some GOP members are cheering on a Trump comeback, saying he remains a popular figure and powerful force in the party. And there's widespread agreement among Republicans that Trump would be the automatic frontrunner -- and freeze the primary field -- if he chooses to jump in. Even some Republicans in swing districts -- like Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey -- are embracing Trump's potential return into the political fray. "Yes, I would," Van Drew, who switched parties and became a Republican in 2019 to defend Trump during his first impeachment proceedings, said when asked if he would back the ex-President if he ran again in 2024. ............................... 1. These weasels will be out of politics by 2024.
I have no doubt. I don't know how we get there, but there's a lot we don't know.

7. The problem remains that at present nearly every Republican elected Rep support his nomination.
This fails to address how will the Republicans who supported his previous run will react this time. Also it fails to address the vote suppression and Gerrymandering that is taking place. It could significantly after the Electoral College. Dems have won the popular vote yet lost the election several times.

8. I thought he'd die during his term in office.
We didn't get that lucky, although dodging Pence as POTUS is probably a mixed blessing.
We just can't count on the old fucknozzle to do us the courtesy of dying. He doesn't know shit about courtesy... Welcome to DU. ![]() |

10. I question if they really are rallying around him
Believe it's more along the lines of "let's not upset him" because they're afraid of his & his
followers wrath and retaliation if they piss him off. ![]() |

Republicans really do hate America and American democracy. They are going to debase themselves further--a fateful jump into the putrid bowels of Satan's Political DumpsterFire on Wheels.
