Capitol Police Officer Arrested For Aiding January 6 Rioter
Source: VICE News
A U.S. Capitol Police officer was arrested on Friday for allegedly warning a rioter to destroy evidence that theyd made it into the Capitol on January 6.
Officer Michael A. Riley, an officer with more than two decades on the force, serves on the U.S. Capitols K-9 Unit. He was charged with obstruction of justice for Facebook messaging an alleged rioter and warning them to delete posts that said theyd been in the Capitol.
According to the indictment, Riley friended a man on Facebook whod posted selfies and other evidence that he was in the Capitol during the riots and warned him to take the posts down so as to avoid possible charges.

Read the article, though. The story says that the cop told the rioter he shared his political ideas, that he could stay with him next time he's in DC, encouraged him to destroy evidence he smoked weed in the building, etc.

(11,098 posts)A cop would surely know that prosecutors would take a dim view of obstruction of justice. A copy would surely know that prison is a bad environment for former cops.
The level of stupidity required for a cop to do this is break taking. Then again, we should never underestimate people's capacity to be stupid.

I wonder if this is the asshat cop who posed for a selfie with an insurrectionist...

(32,626 posts)but if I did say that, I didn't mean it the way it sounds". Offering his house on the shore was a nice touch.
Riley and the man continued to exchange friendly messages for more than two weeks. When the man warned Riley that hed told the FBI of their conversations, Riley then deleted all of their Facebook direct messages. He seemingly tried to cover up for his previous actions by claiming the man had misled him about how he wound up in the building and blasted him for smoking weed and acting like a moron in the Capitol before saying he wouldnt be in touch with him anymore.

(6,820 posts)to the untrained ear. But, if by nothing more than repetition, their odd and moronic tone has polluted our politisphere for a while now. They are a truly semi-sentient species. Not a bit surprising that one of the capital cops was a sympathizer. Great minds and stuff.

(1,814 posts)Hey [Person 1] im a capitol police officer who agrees with your political stance, Riley wrote, the indictment alleges. Take down the part about being in the building they are currently investigating and everyone who was in the building is going to charged. Just looking out!
Just looking out for other traitors. Bum.
