Lawyer who represented George Zimmerman arrested in Florida
Source: ABC News
A central Florida defense attorney who briefly represented George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case is accused of witness tampering in a juvenile rape case, sheriffs officials said.
Hal Uhrig, who works for The Defense Group, was arrested Monday on charges of solicitation to commit perjury and witness tampering, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos López said during a news conference.
Uhrig, who represents a man accused of raping a child when she was 9, arranged a meeting with his client, the victim and her father, the sheriff said.

The attorney instructed the victim and her father that they should do three things. Write a declination, basically a letter, to the state attorney saying the rape didnt happen; avoid being served with a subpoena so you dont have to go to court to testify; (and) lie during your deposition and say the rape didnt happen, López said.

(16,396 posts)I remember O'Mara, now that his name has been mentioned. He was a slime weasel, too!
EDITED TO ADD: Of course, the prosecutor in Zimmerman's trial did such a spectacularly shitty job that acquittal was almost a foregone conclusion. She acted like she was just going through the motions and didn't care if he was convicted or not.
That whole trial was an epic cluster fuck.

(6,254 posts)of sexual assault have you seen dropped by the State because the victim doesnt want to pursue the charges after a civil settlement. Well, this is what it looks like, a lawyer, usually the victims lawyer tells the victim to refuse to cooperate with the prosecution by recanting, dodging subpoenas to go to court, and Writing letters to the prosecutor decline to cooperate. Happens all the time especially in domestic violence cases and money is usually the reason.

(26,076 posts)No, this doesn't happen all the time. Witness intimidation and tampering happens more than people think, but not from the victim's side.
And, that didn't happen here anyway. The victim and her family reported it ASAP.

(6,254 posts)victims of sexual assault who sue their attackers and receive a financial settlement will be instructed by their lawyer to stop cooperating with the prosecution or have a change of attitude about prosecuting their attackers. Basically criminal defendants paying off their victims to stop criminal prosecutions. I didnt read the last sentence that said the victims parents notified the police of the defendants attorney pressuring them to not cooperate with the prosecution. In this case it was beyond crazy that the defendants lawyer pressured the victim and instructed the victim as to how to sabotage the prosecutions case.
