Liz Cheney calls out Jim Banks for falsely signing letter as the ranking member of January 6 committ
Source: CNN
GOP Rep. Jim Banks lamented on the House floor that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi prevented him from serving on the House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol on Thursday.
And yet, Banks sent a letter to at least one government agency falsely claiming that he is ranking member of the committee in his signature.
Fellow Republican Liz Cheney, who serves as vice chair of the committee, called Banks out for his actions on the House floor as the House began debate on the criminal contempt referral of Steve Bannon, a Trump ally, for evading a subpoena.
"He noted that the Speaker had determined that he wouldn't be on the committee" Cheney said. "So I would like to introduce for the record a number of letters the gentleman of Indiana has been sending to federal agencies."

(5,633 posts)He was appointed to be the ranking member by the minority leader. The fact that Pelosi invalidated his appointment is going to be argued about by historians for decades.
There's not a prosecutor alive that would wade into the internal workings, rules and behavior of the Legislative Branch of the government.

Decent Republicans will be pouring millions into her coffers. Trump endorsed her opponent. The kiss of death.

(5,633 posts)With our side basically picking all the members of a 'joint committee.'
I'd bet money that they're going to issue a report in the weeks before the official committee releases a report. There will be two conflicting reports out there, and nothing will happen, especially if we lose the house in 2022.

(252,265 posts)And I can't help thinking of Jimmy Carter - when he made a promise to "always tell the truth," the press picked apart every statement he made, looking for any hint of untruth. With TFG, he lied whenever he spoke. Times sure have changed...

(252,265 posts)Not to mention that he got fewer votes so he was not the choice of the American people. And when he lost by more than twice as many votes the second time, he contested that election - and still is! Not to mention that hundreds of thousands of Americans are dead from a pandemic he made no effort to address, he alienated our allies and enabled our adversaries, and then he was responsible for a violent attempt to overthrow our government where several died and hundreds more injured or maimed - and yet he's still walking free.

(52,579 posts)I still find the 2016 election beyond comprehension and the fact that 74 million people voted for him in 2020 is mind-boggling. There was nothing about him that was EVER appealing in any way.
