Manchin says he offered to leave party if he was 'embarrassment' for Dems

Source: Komo News

WASHINGTON (SBG) — Asked about Sen. Joe Manchin forcing him to slim down his domestic agenda Thursday night, President Joe Biden chose his words about the West Virginia Democrat carefully.

“Joe's not a bad guy,” Biden said at a CNN town hall. “I mean, he's a friend. And he's always, at the end of the day, come around and voted for it.”

Manchin threw up several last-minute roadblocks ahead of the passage of Biden’s American Rescue Plan earlier this year, but he ultimately supported it. Resistance from Manchin and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., has already slashed his $3.5 trillion Build Back Better agenda in half, and neither senator has yet committed to backing a slimmed-down reconciliation package that needs both of their votes.

Other Democrats and progressive activists have been less diplomatic about Manchin. As he rejects major climate initiatives and insists on means-testing and work requirements for social safety net programs, kayaking protesters recently confronted him on his houseboat.

Some people worry that Manchin will become a Republican. In the current balance of parties, that will not happen. He would switch parties only if the Democrats have a large majority or the Republicans have a large majority. He is in a maximum position of power right now and he knows it. The Democrats have to kiss his ass to keep him. If he switches parties he will become just-another-Republican.

At present, he is a 'loyal' Democrat.

They soak up media time and keep Democrats attentive. If the legislation were marching forward 50 strong, the media would focus on Republican opposition and how they will try to pick off a Democrat or two.

But, I understand what you're saying--things could get much worse, as you'd have the GQP/US Taliban Party heading all committees.

Biden's struggling to get a lot done, the corporate media would love to see tRump or a similar GQP clown in the White House for the train-wreck ratings and ad buy dollar$ that they'd put into their coffers. Look at how they ran with Afghanistan, and look at how most corporate media hacks criticized Pres. Biden for stopping that war Bush/Cheney lied the USA into. Biden got the blame and Bush/Cheney/Rice skate away and enjoy the rest of their lives. SMDH.

This country is in a complete mess, mostly bought on by the GQP/US Taliban Party and by folks like Manchin and Sinema who are holding the party hostage, because they can.

This country is in a complete utter mess.

At times, I feel as though it might need to get even worse (gasp, shudder, cringe) before we can really turn the tide.

Humans fall into two groups on the issue of foresight. Some have it, some don’t. Some pretend they don’t but they do.

Those who have foresight that are SOMEWHAT powerless to stem the tide of destruction are miserable right now. That includes me. I can vote, make a few calls, complain and sweat out election eve. I see where we are headed and no amount of screaming will help. Its like being in quick sand.

Those that have foresight and can do something about it also fall into two categories. There are those who are happy to see the direction the country is going and doing all they can to hasten it. There are also those who want to make necessary changes but aren’t being heard. Or they can’t get enuf support to make the changes. Sen Whitehouse, Sen Warren, and many more in the Democratic party are trying, but at this point the train is running full speed in the wrong direction.

Then there are those who don’t have the foresight. They sleep like babies. When they wake up to the destruction, it is too late and they are not sure how we got here.

He'd be labelled their #1 RINO and they'd primary his ass out of the Senate immediately.
At least the Democrats tolerate him somewhat. He should pick a side.
