Federal judge rejects Southwest Airlines pilots' request to block vaccine mandate
Source: CNBC
A federal judge in Texas denied Southwest Airlines pilots unions request to temporarily block a vaccine mandate for employees, which is a requirement under new government rules.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines must require staff to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by Dec. 8 unless they receive a religious or medical exemption, according to rules for federal contractors that the Biden administration issued last month.
Southwest and other major airlines like Delta, United and American fly federal employees, U.S. mail and provide other services to the government.
The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, which represents some 9,000 aviators, sought a temporary restraining order against the mandate. The union had argued that the mandate, as well as other Covid-related company policies, needed to be negotiated with the union.

(3,449 posts)And what's with this 'religious exemption' bullshit!? What, if you're religious you're somehow not going to give the virus to multiple unsuspecting people? This fucking country just cannot do the right thing or tell adults to act like fucking adults to save our lives. Literally!

Granted such faiths are rare but they do actually exist so for those few rare ones some exceptions are usually allowed.
Is it logical? Certainly not as the science has proven over and over again that vaccines are by and largely safe and effective but then again belief in a religion is not logical either.

(28,485 posts)Period. End of discussion. Any "religious exemption" claim by anyone else is total and complete bullshit.
And even the Christian Scientists are complete and total idiots.
Read God's Perfect Child by Caroline Fraser. Truly eye opening.

(22,339 posts)It's NOT just the Christian Scientists. (I wish it were, because they seem to be dying out.) From what I can tell, the religious groups that shun medical treatment mostly tend to be small, splinter sects and the occasional "non-denominational" church whose pastor has decided that members should "put their faith in God" when they get sick, rather than turning to medical science.

There's one thing you and I agree on, and that's that these people are idiots. They're idiots of the worst kind, especially the ones who deny medical care to their children.

If the person is claiming fetal stem lines, then they can be reminded that tons of common medicines fall under that category including Tylenol, Ibuprofen, many allergy meds, and many vaccines they've already taken.

Halfway through the flight he or she might decide that they don't believe in the theory of gravity anymore.

It was a staff walkout/sickout to protest the vaccine mandate, and a sign of just how deep-seated the opposition is in some quarters.
