Texas sues the Biden administration over federal COVID-19 vaccine mandates

Source: Texas Tribune

Attorney General Ken Paxton, on behalf of the state, sued the Biden administration on Friday over its coronavirus vaccine mandate for federal contractors.

The federal requirement, which is set to take effect Dec. 8, calls on all federal workers and contractors to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Texas lawsuit comes after similar suits filed by Florida and Georgia, along with several other states.

“The Biden Administration has repeatedly expressed its disdain for Americans who choose not to get a vaccine, and it has committed repeated and abusive federal overreach to force upon Americans something they do not want,” Paxton said in a statement. “The federal government does not have the ability to strip individuals of their choice to get a vaccine or not. If the President thinks his patience is wearing thin, he is clearly underestimating the lack of patience from Texans whose rights he is infringing.”

Paxton and fellow Republican Gov. Greg Abbott have been at war with local and federal officials over vaccinate mandates. Earlier this month, Abbott expanded an executive order to block the requirement for any entity in Texas, including health care facilities and private businesses. He previously banned cities, counties, school districts and state agencies from requiring vaccines. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has tweeted that vaccination “should never be forced on anyone by the state or a private employer.”

1. I have to wonder if this would be considered a frivolous lawsuit.

And if the lawsuit is blatant enough whether the attorneys involved should lose their license.

2. There are attempts to disbar Paxton due to the SCOTUS lawsuit he filed

That was the lawsuit where 140+ members of the house endorsed and which was dismissed by the SCOTUS without a hearing

A group of Texas lawyers, including four past presidents of the State Bar of Texas, filed a complaint Wednesday asking bar regulators to suspend or disbar Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for actions supporting efforts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election.

Asserting Paxton has brought “dishonor” to his fellow Texas lawyers and the legal profession, the group of 16 prominent Texas lawyers and the group Lawyers Defending American Democracy said in the complaint that Paxton has engaged in a pattern of “serious violations” of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.

The group cited the U.S. Supreme Court action Paxton filed in December 2020 seeking to overturn the election results, which the court dismissed for lack of standing. He wanted the court to enjoin four states that went for Democrat Joe Biden from using the results of their elections to appoint electors, and instead to appoint new electors or none at all.

The complaint also alleges Paxton continued after that to engage in “ethical violations” in support of Trump’s effort to overturn the election results, including by urging a crowd of people near the White House on Jan. 6 to march to the U.S. Capital to pressure Congress to change what it was meeting to do, which was to “properly count Electoral College votes and declare the rightful winner.”

The lawyers allege in the complaint that Paxton’s conduct cannot be acceptable from any licensed lawyer in the U.S., let alone the attorney general of a state.

Aren't you in favor of that damned abortion squealer law they have down there? He seems to have no problem forcing a woman to carry the rapist's baby she does not want to term, and probably also to force her to visit the prison he's in and face him every Sunday for the next 18 years because it would be oh, so sad if daddy got his parental rights violated.

But a simple vaccine that doesn't even fucking hurt and could keep your stupid ass alive? Oh no, we can't have that.

Supreme Court declines to block Maine health care employee vaccine mandate

The Supreme Court on Friday denied a request to block a Maine rule that requires certain health care employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A group of unvaccinated workers argued that the vaccine mandate violated their religious liberty rights.

The court's right wing -- Justice Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito -- dissented and would have halted the mandate while the appeals process plays out.

The court's move is the latest instance in which the justices have turned away a request to halt a vaccine mandate and it comes as states are grappling with the delta variant.

Disgust? Yes.
Pissed off? Yes.
Angered? Yes.
Loathing? Yes.
Astounded at how blindingly stupid, selfish, ignorant and immature they are? Yes.

I am ashamed that good air is wasted on them.

Build the wall around Texas, stop all federal dollars going in and the next time they call when a hurricane hits, just put them on hold.

That is exactly what this is all about. Well, that and trying out a little dictatorship in advance of the rethug takeover in this country. Which they won't be able to do as long as we keep in mind that we have to make sure it does not happen. I hope we can do that.
