Haley Wants Cognitive Tests for U.S. LeadersThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by JudyM (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). Haley Wants Cognitive Tests for U.S. Leaders November 4, 2021 at 5:47 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 56 Comments Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told the Christian Broadcasting Network that older government leaders should undergo a “cognitive test.” Said Haley: “If you’re gonna have anyone above a certain age in a position of power — whether it’s the House, whether it’s the Senate, whether it’s vice president, whether it’s president — you should have some sort of cognitive test.” She added: “Let’s face it, we’ve got a lot of people in leadership positions that are old. And that’s not being disrespectful. That’s a fact.” Read more: https://politicalwire.com/2021/11/04/haley-calls-for-giving-u-s-leaders-cognitive-tests/ Will she start with a certain former President? Inquiring minds want to know.

5. She actually knows Trump, and she discreetly kept quiet about his cognitive problems.
I mean, arrogant blind stupidity is bad enough, but add in some strange narcissitic disorder and also senility-- she never called for testing him then.
Then again, Biden would easily pass such a test, and Trump probably couldn't have passed it a decade ago. So go for it, Nikki! Be careful what you wish for. |

8. I have a better idea: politicians square off in a facts quiz
You have Repubs vs Dems compete to have the correct answer in factual questions, like "Is CRT being taught in grade schools?" or "Who is the current president?" I figure they could do it like the old College Bowl.

12. Sorry, Ms. Haley,
the constitution clearly spells out the qualifications for the president and Congress. For any further qualifications you'll just have to rely on us lowly voters as to who gets to serve. Any candidate has the choice to voluntarily take any test they want and make it public. You first, Ma'am

30. Yes, and...
One of those is a minimum age. I think it is long past the time (Reagan) for there to be a maximum age (like for airline pilots) And yeah, it'll take a constitutional amendment. I'm thinking 65, and for senate and house as well, but yeah, I'll be willing to discuss it. Let's talk about the distance between the "average" voter and those in charge. Let's talk about the grasp of new markets and technologies of the elderly "leadership" (the internet is a bunch of tubes) and what is "really" going on. Let's talk about that you aren't even eligible to be President until 35, but voters younger than that have to vote for ONLY people older than that, and MUCH older. How about the "elderly" (as one of them) have to start voting for people younger than they, just as those younger than 35 have to vote for older folks.
What I'm saying is that it is a worthy conversation to be had. |

25. Rather than a cognition test,
I'd prefer EVERY candidate take a personality test (the same test for all) and those scoring above "x" for sociopathy and/or psychopathology will be disqualified from any race for public service, even dog catcher.
We do, however, still have the constitution and I believe that spells out the qualifications for being president, vice president, etc. Until an amendment for change is passed and approved by 2/3 of the states, I believe it's all just "talk" to rile up the republican base. First, by declaring Biden senile, and 2nd by saying "we're" declaring TFG "senile".... Ronald Raygun showed "senile" can be gotten around with the correct cabinet members... even tho I'll never agree with what they did. Sociopathy and psychopathology are MUCH more dangerous for us as a society, as we're seeing right now. Much more, and we'll not have a democratic republic to call home any longer. We absolutely do not want a Hawley or De Santis or Lee or any number of other Republican Trumpistas to sit in the catbird seat and try to out-trump Trump. Russia might as well drop a nuke on us now; it would be that devastating. |

34. Don't target an age group - the test should be for everyone
Some are going to cram for the test, but that's OK. If they're capable of cramming and learning the answers overnight (just like we all did in college) then more power to them. It's the ones who DON'T know the answers and CAN'T learn them, that must be excluded from running for high office.
I'm all in favor of this. No cheating allowed. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Here’s what I want.
1. Must have been re-elected at least once to either a governorship, US House of Representatives or US Senate, or have been elected to two different offices one of which must be one of the three named in the last sentence. 2. Must pass the US naturalization test. 3. Must pass the Single Scope Background Investigation needed to receive a Top Secret security clearance. 4. Must divulge tax returns, credit report, investment activity and business records for the last 10 years. 5. Must pass the US military enlistment physical. 6. Must pass the Armed Services Vocational Battery (ASVAB) test. 7. Must agree to turn over full control of any businesses and investments to a management team hired by the US government. The team will operate the businesses and manage the investments in a fashion designed to return them to their owner in pretty much the same condition they were in when the owner assumed office. 8. Must submit a photo of his or her current cat. No cat, no office. |
