Joe Manchin blockaded in his car by climate protesters who claim he tried to run them over

Source: Fox News

A group of climate change protesters boasted about blockading Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin's car on Thursday, accusing the moderate lawmaker of trying to run them over in his attempt to drive through a parking garage.

"We blockaded Joe Manchin's car and he tried to run us over," a TikTok video posted by @hungry4climatejustice showing the confrontation states.

The clip shows a group of protesters standing in front of and behind a luxury vehicle in a parking garage, holding a banner while at least one person leaned on the vehicle's hood. Others
filmed themselves while yelling at the driver. The constant sound of a car horn can be heard throughout but it was not clear if it was Manchin honking.

"This is Joe Manchin's car slowly pressing into our peaceful protesters," a person says. "We want to live! We want to live!" That phrase, along with "F--k Joe Manchin," was the rallying cry of the demonstration aimed at convincing Manchin to support President Biden's multitrillion-dollar Build Back Better spending package.

... nor is it a way to change the minds of politicians. What a ridiculous stunt. (It reminds me of that one time when one of Cenk Uygur's groups staged a sit-in at Nancy Pelosi's office... an actual ally and supporter of their cause.) Silly.

What we need is this type of sustained behavior on a massive scale until all of them have to move off their greed driven, do nothing stance.

This fucker is harassing millions of people, and you’re condemning a few people for a minor direct action. WTF

... as most parents of toddlers who have temper tantrums in public will tell you, they needed to be spanked or ignored.

Were they planning on holding him hostage indefinitely? Were they expecting him to roll down his window and invite them to sit in his car and have a discussion with him? Were they expecting the skies to open up and give him a revelation from heaven beyond?

This is the type of behavior that one expects from the idiots at the Peta. Harassing people on the streets or in parking lots as they go about their lives, throwing paint on people because they wear fur coats, it may get headlines but it certainly does not win friends or sympathy for someone's cause. It just makes it easier for people to dismiss them.

That type of behavior just reinforces the widespread notion that they are fringe and kooky. They're not doing themselves any favors, nor are they helping the more rational and reasonable and mature climate change activists.

Let's say a bunch of MAGA-types did this to AOC or Bernie Sanders? I don't know if the "but's it okay in this situation because we're right" is going to work, because they would use the exact same line of thinking.

We have tried everything. We tried reason. We tried talking. We tried peaceful protest. We tried sending letters. We get attacked, beaten run over by the GOP side and no one says squat. Maserati Manchin only understands hings when it directly affects him. Here his constituents are, struggling to make ends meet and he is driving his effin' Maserati to his yacht club. He is lucky that getting blocked was the only thing that happened. If the roles were reversed you know the Goopers would have beaten on the car, put dents in it and more. But a Democrat does not drive a high end sports car to a yacht club and block help for desperate people.

It’s a peaceful protest; nobody got hurt. So they got in his face a little…I think that’s what makes us a democracy. What the hell does Maserati Manchin expect when he makes himself face of resistance to climate change legislation? He’s a big boy and he can handle it. If it bothers you that much you can always read up on how climate change and the sense that governments are (at best) dragging their feet is starting to impact the mental health of people who will be around long after the Manchins of the world have drawn their last breath:

If they aren't satisfied with his positions then they should elect someone else.

If they can't do that, it's because people who disagree with them significantly outnumber them in the state.

They need to "get used to" the reality that they can only try to persuade him or persuade the people who elect him - and their behavior runs counter to both of those goals.

Stunts like this have ZERO chances of changing anyone's mind.
They certainly have the right to protest, scream, shout, write letters, and round-up support.
They don't have the right to block him trying to leave and stage a 'getting run over' stunt.

Think about it ... how would you react to a mob blocking your exit from a confined space?

Most owners of the ultra-lux SUV would bristle at the term car when they paid for an upscale bespoke automobile. I've never even seen one and I bet no one else here has.
I see too when Regular Joe, the coal miner's friend, shows up on his yacht, it becomes a humble houseboat.

I keep my skepticism thank you.

I've seen multiple videos of this and no where do we actually see Manchin.
I maintain that if he really is driving the car then his entire security team should be fired.

Anything posted by someone who starts their name with "Libs" is probably full of it.

We don't know if that's him or even Elvis back from the dead. We don't even know if this was really an event or if it was staged for the video. I have no idea how any of this is "news" when there seem to be no actual facts.
