Biden to showcase Baltimore as fertile ground for his agenda

Source: Associated Press

BALTIMORE (AP) — When he was in the White House, Donald Trump referred to Baltimore as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.” But for President Joe Biden, the city is the first stop Wednesday in what probably will be a national tour to showcase his agenda.

At the Port of Baltimore, Biden plans to lay out the benefits of the $1 trillion infrastructure package that Congress passed last week. The president intends to emphasize how the spending can strengthen global supply chains to help lower prices, reduce shortages and add union jobs, according to a White House official.

Biden plans to hold up Baltimore’s port as a blueprint on how to reduce shipping bottlenecks that have held back the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. The infrastructure package includes $17 billion for upgrading ports — an urgent need as a backlog of ships waiting to dock at major transit hubs has fueled inflation and damaged public perceptions of Biden’s economic stewardship.

The port in Baltimore is adding container cranes as well as a 50-foot berth where ships can be unloaded. Baltimore’s port is also benefiting from grants to upgrade the Howard Street Tunnel, a brick-lined underpass for trains that opened in 1895. The tunnel would be expanded so that shipping containers could be double-stacked on railcars, making it easier to move goods out of the port.

is that various ports have become "specialized" with the types of products they can handle so ships eventually get directed to those locations. I know here in Philly, we a big destination for seasonal fruit shipments, so there are refrigerated piers to handle that, and we also get much of the cocoa bean shipments, along with Camden's port (thanks to Hershey).

I don't know if that might mean that at some time in the future, ports can be configured to be "nimble" enough to be able to expand to handle other types of cargo "on the fly" as needed, and that temp capability can be retracted as it were, during slower times. I have been to Dundalk Marine Terminal and it certainly has enough space to add capacity (I suppose if reconfigured).

The obvious problem is that we get so much stuff from China that it automatically always goes right across the Pacific to the west coast as the most direct route, and that is where all those ships are backed up.

The one thing that the AP article neglected to mention about Baltimore is that it is the hometown of the current Speaker of the House... and her father, Thomas D'Alesandro Jr., was mayor there for 3 terms (after serving 4 terms as a Congressman from there), back from the late-'30s - late '50s.

...but maybe the VP should be at the Port of Savannah tomorrow morning and the Port of Charleston tomorrow afternoon. And maybe have her at the Port of Houston on Saturday. Not just talking about what the bill is going to do, but who voted against it, and how Democrats are doing serious work for the American people while Republican talk about Big Bird and Brandon, and create death memes.

speaking with some of the non-profit scientific foundations who have helped developed the COVID-19 vaccines as well as visiting some WW1 sites and cemeteries since tomorrow (Novemeber 11) is Armistice Day (with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, France later renamed "Veteran's Day" ) -

More than 1,500 Americans who died during World War I are buried at Suresnes American Cemetery. They were laid to rest here in France, but their spirit lives on in the United States. We honor their sacrifice—and the sacrifice of all of those who have served and continue to serve.

To end this pandemic and prepare for the next one, scientific collaboration with our partners and allies is essential. I thanked the scientists and researchers at Institut Pasteur in Paris, whose innovation contributed to developing today’s life-saving COVID-19 vaccines.

...put the Secretary of Labor out there. The Commerce Secretary. The Energy Secretary. Anybody who'll draw a camera and somebody with a pencil. Keep this thing in the newspapers of the states that count and in the districts you need. Biden can't be everywhere, but that's why you have surrogates. A day shouldn't go by from now until Thanksgiving without somebody from his administration standing in front of a port, or a project in progress or planning. Don't make the mistake of not taking credit and not letting people know the adults are working on getting things done.

It is a foregone conclusion that the media creates a narrative and no matter where the officials are and who they are speaking to, the cherry-picking of reportage will continue until some of the millionaires and billionaires on the left start buying some mainstream media outlets.

For example, Secretary of Transportation (and new father) Pete Buttigieg is in Paris at COP26 touting the plan -

A pleasure to speak with President @BarackObama here at #COP26. From the Paris Climate Agreement to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal and beyond, we must respond to a new generation’s call for climate action by presenting a true roadmap for change.

But they are not going to fucking cover it because it doesn't fit the fucking "Democrats in Disarray®" narrative that they want to project because they are all corporate-owned.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is in Delaware today with Del. Senator Carper and Delaware's at-large Congresswoman Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester touting the plan -

Secretary Jennifer Granholm
@SecGranholm
Thank you for your support on these crucial infrastructure investments, @RepLBR and @SenatorCarper. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal will help us create good-paying careers, save Delawareans💵 on their energy bills, and help save the planet all at the same time. Let's go!

Now go on their twitter accounts to see where they are and then call up the M$M and ask why they are not there covering them.
