Harris to be first woman to hold U.S. presidential reins as Biden undergoes colonoscopy
Source: Reuters
BETHESDA, Md., Nov 19 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden will transfer power briefly to Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday while he is under anesthesia for a routine colonoscopy, making her the first woman to hold presidential power in U.S. history.
Biden is undergoing his annual physical at the Walter Reed military hospital outside of Washington. Harris is the first woman to serve as vice president of the United States; no woman has ever been president in the country's nearly 250-year history. "Following the process set out in the Constitution, President Biden will transfer power to the Vice President for the brief period of time when he is under anesthesia," White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said in a statement.
"The Vice President will work from her office in the West Wing during this time," Psaki said. Presidential power has been transferred to the vice president before, when President George W. Bush had colonoscopies in 2002 and 2007.
Biden, who turns 79 on Saturday, is the oldest person to take office as U.S. president. Although speculation has persisted about whether he will run for re-election in 2024, he has said he expects to seek a second four-year term alongside Harris.

Kudos for Joe for being so open (No pun intended) about it . You know the Orange Creep wouldn't be , even though he was and is still full of shit.

(5,017 posts)so I guess I'll let my doctor nag me when the time comes, and then just grumble and do it.
Of course you all have to have other exams that we don't...so I guess it all evens out (although I know your exams are more invasive)....sorry....

Biden is fairly spry for his age so maybe his doctor felt it was still a good tradeoff.
And congrats to Harris! Probably not how any of us imagined it happening but still a first for women that is worth celebrating.

I don't remeber TFG ever giving power over to VP Pense when/if he had medical procedures.
Maybe he just didn't have any?
Or his ego just wouldn't let him.

(21,900 posts)Reagan didn't even do it while he was shot, but did on July 13, 1985 for colon cancer surgery. W. Bush did it twice, on June 29, 2002 and on Poppy Bush, July 21, 2007, both for colonoscopies.
No one did it before Reagan. Poppy Bush, Clinton, Obama, and Trump all never did it.
