Jury begins deliberating in murder trial of men charged with killing Ahmaud Arbery

Source: Washington Post

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Jurors began deliberations just before noon Tuesday in the murder trial of the three men accused of killing 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery last year, a case that has stoked nationwide outrage and intense scrutiny of the justice system.

Judge Timothy Walmsley read jurors their instructions after prosecutors made their final rebuttal to the defense’s closing arguments, calling part of defense lawyers’ strategy “offensive.” Prosecutors say that three White men — Travis McMichael, his son Greg McMichael and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan — pursued Arbery without justification, jumping to conclusions about a “Black man running down the street” and using their pickup trucks to trap him in their suburban Georgia neighborhood.

“This isn’t the Wild West,” prosecutor Linda Dunikoski said as she argued that the defendants acted as dangerous vigilantes on Feb. 23, 2020.

Defense attorneys say the accused were concerned citizens who believed that Arbery was a burglar and never set out to hurt him. The defendants were trying to stop Arbery for the police, they said, when Travis McMichael shot Arbery in self-defense during a struggle.

They're not too keen on anything that's changed since the '50s.

The 1850s.

I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell. It will either be full acquittal or, at best, a hung jury – because you know that at least one of the eleven white jurors will be sympathetic to the notion that a Black guy with “long, dirty toenails” (i.e. an obvious subhuman more closely resembling an ape…that defense attorney knew exactly which buttons to push) in a white neighborhood is an obvious threat that justifies anything as “self-defense.”

In the Arbery case, we have video of 3 armed men chasing after an unarmed black man. In the Rittenhouse case, we have video of Rosenbaum chasing Rittenhouse and of Huber, the 2nd man shot, going at Rittenhouse with a skateboard. Grosskreutz testified in court that he had drawn his illegally carried handgun and pointed it at Rittenhouse before Rittenhouse shot him in the arm.

The prosecution had a much easier job here and from what I’ve seen the lady is really good at her job.

That's it.

The cruelty is the point.

I'd be more shocked if the three murderers don't get an invite to Mar-A-Lago for a photo Op after acquittal, or hung jury.

I wish I were wrong, but this as 'Murika.

There are people who seem to insist on being on the wrong side of every issue, but even in freepland there is significant push back against them. Although, for the past couple days I’ve been arguing with someone on YouTube who continues to insist he Arbrey became a threat when he tried to grab shotgun, but they were not a threat as they chased him and pointed guns at him. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around that logic. Hopefully they filtered out anyone who thinks like that guy
