Brian Laundrie died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, lawyer says
Source: NBC News
Brian Laundrie died from a gunshot wound to the head and his manner of death was a suicide, according to a statement from the Laundrie family attorney.
The update on Laundrie's manner of death and its cause came more than a month after an autopsy of his remains, which were found in wetland areas in Florida's Carlton Reserve on Oct. 20 and identified as belonging to him Oct. 21.
After the conclusion of that autopsy last month, his family's attorney, Steven Bertolino, said that "no manner or cause of death was determined." Since then, a forensic anthropologist has been analyzing Laundrie's remains.
Laundrie went missing Sept. 14, about two weeks after he returned to his home state of Florida following the disappearance of his fiancée, Gabby Petito.

(9,997 posts)killed himself because he killed her, so that wouldn't have worked. I believe his killing her was not intentional except possibly in the moment.

(33,945 posts)Possible it was during a fight as that is where their relationship was - violence from both. You think it's Man 1, not Man 2.

(2,277 posts)ahead of her. It's a tragedy and it's infuriating and we can highlight the statistical inequity of the amount of media attention giving to missing women of color without losing our basic humanity by slighting the death of a victim of domestic violence because she was white.
EVERY missing girl is someone's daughter, but only certain criteria rates the news - and you know that

(2,277 posts)these two things are held as mutually exclusive. One can mourn the death of any woman to domestic violence, as well as understand, and amplify, that the deaths of women of color, indigenous women, don't receive the same media attention and that needs to change. But to toss off a domestic violence murder as "white woman syndrome" because one cannot hold two ideas at the same time - is wrong.

Do we need to hear any more? Will there be a TV movie?

That was all he needed to do, but then again, the criminal mind works in mysterious ways.

(10,445 posts)He was a coward. This is a case where I have no sympathy for the person committing suicide because he did it to avoid the consequences of his act, the murder of his fiancee. (It's a different matter entirely when a person commits suicide because of the mental pain they are in. I say this as the mother of a suicide victim.)

(6,261 posts)But I didn't see anything about it in the report. Still, that would be far too basic a thing to overlook and I don't want to go anomaly-hunting as I haven't followed this case particularly.
