US to require vaccines for all border crossers in January

By ZEKE MILLER, Associated Press 16 min ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will require essential, nonresident travelers crossing U.S. land borders, such as truck drivers, government and emergency response officials, to be fully vaccinated beginning on Jan. 22, the administration planned to announce.

A senior administration official said the requirement, which the White House previewed in October, brings the rules for essential travelers in line with those that took effect earlier this month for leisure travelers, when the U.S. reopened its borders to fully vaccinated individuals.

Essential travelers entering by ferry will also be required to be fully vaccinated by the same date, the official said. The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to preview the announcement.

Republicans:
Biden isn't securing the border. Foreigners are bringing Covid into the USA.

Republicans:
Biden can't dictate vaccine proof and Covid controls at the border.

I wonder what vaccine tracking system they will require them to use? Paper? Phone-based? Maybe a fingerprint or retina based system?

There's a lot of gqp wandering around with fake vaccine passports and maybe this can be the next step in cracking down on that. These people as non-residents will have less in the way of legal and personal resources to fight a mandate. By starting with them we can set a legal precedent that will weaken any potential case from resident anti-vaxxers.

This won't apply to asylum seekers just yet. Not sure what the timeframe on that is but I think they're a lot more sensible than our average US "citizen" and will probably be quite happy to get a free vaccination that is backed by science.

Undocumented immigrants either are a) those who cross legally at official border crossing points but whose documentation expired... or b) those who cross the border at places other than official border crossings.

In the case of a) I bet they're not likely to be attempting to cross the border at official points, and b) who is checking their legal status at unofficial border crossing points?

The trucker boards are populated with individuals/accounts bitching about the rules. Only affects border crossing drivers - if that's your job then if you don't like the rule then you don't get to cross the border and you'll have to look for a non border crossing job.
