Dr. Oz announces bid for US Senate seat in Pennsylvania

Source: CNN

(CNN)Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality, is running for the US Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican, according to an op-ed published Tuesday in the conservative Washington Examiner. "During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That's why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal," Oz wrote.

The 61-year-old Oz will join a Republican primary field that already includes Philadelphia-area businessman (and 2018 lieutenant governor nominee) Jeff Bartos and Carla Sands, who served as US ambassador to Denmark in the Trump administration. Another potential Republican candidate is David McCormick, a former official in the Treasury Department under President George W. Bush.

The race in Pennsylvania to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey has been shaken up in recent weeks, primarily by the departure of GOP candidate Sean Parnell, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. "Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will put America first," Oz said in a 60-second video on his campaign website.

Oz is an Ohio native who attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. He rose to fame as a frequent guest of Oprah Winfrey, eventually launching his own syndicated daytime TV talk show in 2009. Representatives for Oz did not return CNN's request for comment.

Oz may have to explain why he isn’t running for office in New Jersey, where he has lived for the past two decades before he began voting in Pennsylvania’s elections this year by absentee ballot, registered to his in-laws’ address in suburban Philadelphia.

His longtime home is above the Hudson River in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, overlooking Manhattan, where he films his TV show and practices medicine. Oz became a household name after gaining fame as a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s show.

His campaign website launched Tuesday has an address in Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery County, where his wife's parents have lived for years.

That should piss off some people but you never know
He has trump love on his side ..

His longtime home is above the Hudson River in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, overlooking Manhattan, where he films his TV show and practices medicine

If support from Trump is important in the Republican primary, then Oz may have a leg up.
As Oz interviewed Trump on his show in 2016, Trump told him, “you know my wife’s a big fan of your show.”

Still, Oz may have to explain why he isn’t running for office in New Jersey, where he has lived for the past two decades before he began voting in Pennsylvania’s elections this year by absentee ballot, registered to his in-laws’ address in suburban Philadelphia.👀

Lamb would need to win Philly in order to even have a chance and he has done zero outreach over here on this side of the state within the city and its suburbs vs Fetterman (who is aware of the indies and the few "sane" Republicans over here).

Pennsylvania is in @Commish_Schmidt debt for his extraordinary integrity and commitment to safeguarding the true democratic will of Philadelphia in 2020.

I wish him the very best in his next endeavor and thank him for his public service.

Aside from Erie going back to its (D) roots, SE PA's extra turnout, including a record turnout here in the city proper, took Biden over the finish line.

And Lamb has not even done outreach in western PA. He has a base of support centered around Mt Lebanon where he lives, but Fetterman is well-known across western PA and will carry this part of the state in the primary.

(who I love) over here, having a very "localized base of support" but little if any name recognition anywhere else in the state.

Meanwhile Fetterman's "Sheetz" vs "Wawa" running "competition" is something that is silly but is also cleverly endearing with its embrace of regional brand convenience stores that "average Joe/Jane" PAers across the state, often frequent.

living in NY running for governor of Oregon. And he has raised the most money so far from out of state. I don't know much about him other than he is a democrat, but it does feel weird to have someone come in from another state to run yours. He was raised in Oregon so originally from here.

It will be interesting to see how the polls go.

I think its weird Oz is using parents address, he is rich, why didn't he at least buy a house there?
