The parents of the Michigan high school shooting suspect have reportedly gone missing after being charged in relation to the incident, CNN reports.

Local authorities confirmed they are searching for James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of accused Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, hours after they were each announced to face four counts of homicide involuntary manslaughter on Friday (December 3).

The parents were scheduled for an arraignment at 4:00 p.m. ET.

On Thursday (December 2), Oxford County prosecutor Karen McDonald criticized Crumbley's parents' actions as being "far beyond negligence" in relation to the incident and said a charging decision was expected to come by Friday.

But it seems that the Crumbleys are now nowhere to be found. The county’s Fugitive Apprehension Team was searching for them on Friday after they stopped responding to their attorney, Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe told Detroit News.

They made a horrible, horrible mistake. And they deserve to be charged. But the father did call 911 to alert the police that a gun was missing from their house and he thought their son might be the shooter. And the mother texted him as soon as word of the shooting got out, "Ethan, don't do it." So it isn't as if they are crazy enough to support what their son did, although they facilitated it by making the gun available and failed to respond appropriately and quickly when the school informed them of evidence of their son's thoughts.

There was so little time between the meeting at the school and the shooting. I don't know what I would do if a school administrator provided me with evidence that a child of mine was thinking of committing mass murder, but I can imagine thinking I had time to get him into counseling, not thinking the shooting would be that same day. Sometimes something so awful is hard to take in immediately. I say this as someone who saw my fiance dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, knew he was dying, and simultaneously hallucinated that he sat up in his hospital bed and said, "Oh my god, look what I almost did."

I'll probably get flamed for this post but I always try to understand people's motivations, especially when I profoundly disagree with their actions.

They bought their son a handgun and when the school called them because they were concerned about his searching for ammo online during class, mom didn't even bother to respond or talk with them. I think they did more than make mistakes as well-meaning parents--I think the mom is off her rocker and helped create the monster.

I believe that the charge of involuntary manslaughter is well-deserved. It's also the most heartbreaking of charges, as it means that someone's gross error in judgement--not someone's intention to cause harm--resulted in someone's death.

I don't know if she is sane or not, but I'm glad she isn't my neighbor.
