Jeff Jackson drops out of North Carolina Senate race

Source: Politico

Democrat Jeff Jackson dropped out of the North Carolina Senate race on Thursday, endorsing his primary opponent, former state Supreme Court Justice Cheri Beasley.

"Pat McCrory and Ted Budd are gearing up to spend millions of dollars attacking each other in order to be the Republican nominee. If we're going to flip this seat, we can't do that," Jackson said in a video released on Thursday morning. "A costly and divisive primary will sink this whole thing. We need to unite right now and we need to unite behind Cheri."

"We all saw what happened with the election in Virginia last month. We are headed into a tough one," he added, citing Democrats' loss in the blue-leaning state last November.

Jackson, a state senator who faced a difficult primary in which he trailed in fundraising, called donors to inform them of his decision on Wednesday, according to three people familiar with those calls. POLITICO reported Jackson's plans to drop out on Wednesday evening.

I wish this state would never again elect a republican at any level of government.

Yet Jeff Jackson has been there and meeting people since months before she ever announced. This smells.

Before reading, I will state that my sense is that these people get a smug sense of superiority by “being in the know” while the other lessers just walk around with such naïveté that they look down upon. They like feeling special.

Now let’s see what the studies say.

But it does smell...like politics, the politics of NC. I live here, and I've seen it. It's a bipartisan problem here in NC.

8. Yes, it does smell. And that is not suggesting it is a CT. It's suggesting it's fucking cowshit

And NC politics at its stinkiest. This is my state, and I've seen the politics here and it's played by both parties.

Jeff Jackson wanted to run against Tillis in the last election...but he was told he should wait because Cal Cunningham was going to run and we see how well that turned out; we found out right before the general that the dude couldn't keep it his pants and so now we're still stuck with Tillis.
When brooklynite told us here
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215550669
that we he'd just met with our great senate candidate Cheri Beasley at some donor meeting (in NY) and how she was going to run a campaign focusing on rural voters, Jeff Jackson was already running for the seat, and was in the midst of a campaign of visiting and holding a town hall in every one of our hundred counties, most of which are rural. He completed that and then went on to start a campaign to visit every college and university in the state; I don't think he had finished it when he dropped out yesterday. But yea, Cheri Beasley's going to focus on the rural voters. Maybe she meant that she's going to talk about us to out of state donors and not to us the NC rural voters?
So when I ask brooklynite about where Cheri Beasley is, I think it's possible he might know, because he knew about her campaign before we did, and she's not out here holding a town hall in every county like Jeff Jackson has already done, or any town halls for that matter, and she's not putting herself out here in the state. She's gotten the support of the party without a primary vote cast or even any appeal to Democrats in the state as a candidate.
And again Jeff Jackson puts the party first and drops out.
