Washington state Sen. Doug Ericksen dies after battle with COVID

Source: Seattle Times

OLYMPIA -- State Sen. Doug Ericksen, a stalwart conservative voice in the Legislature, former leader of Donald Trump's campaign in Washington and an outspoken critic of COVID-19 emergency orders, has died, his family said Saturday. He was 52.

Ericksen said last month that he had tested positive for the coronavirus while on a trip to El Salvador, although his cause of death was not immediately confirmed this weekend.

His Reality and fear:

"I took a trip to El Salvador and tested positive for COVID shortly after I arrived," he wrote. "I cannot get back home, and it's to the point that I feel it would be beneficial for me to receive an iv of monoclonal antibodies (Regeneron). I have a doctor here who can administer the iv, but the product is not available here."

that fucker deserved it:

Ericksen fought, through protest and legislation, Inslee's orders and mandates, intended to fight the spread of the virus. Public health officials have strongly endorsed vaccination and masks as the best tools for fighting the pandemic. He had introduced legislation intended to protect the rights of people who won't get vaccinated and had repeatedly called on Inslee to resign.

Nothing to see here. Except that he probably used up precious and scarce hospital resources while he was dying.

Dear lord, I just wish unvaccinated people would be turned away from hospitals.

Almost exactly a year ago I had a heart attack. I honestly thought I was having some sort of unusual Covid symptoms, even though I couldn't imagine how I might have been exposed. When I got to the local ER, they essentially took one look at me, knew exactly what was going on, got me to the cath lab and put a stent in the one blood vessel that was 100% blocked. I was home three days later, am doing just fine since then, thank you for asking. But part of my hesitation last year about going to the hospital was an awareness of how many Covid patients were there, and worry that I might not get the care I needed. My fears were unfounded, and I was very well treated. But that's not the case everywhere. I am heartily sick of seeing stories about some heart attack patient waiting in a hallway for three days and then dying because the unvaccinated Covid patients are taking up all the ICU beds.

His rural medical facilities could not do a needed gall bladder operation, and no hospitals in Texas had an available. By the time one was found, it was too late and he died. This was back in the late spring when virus counts were high, but they seem to be moving in that direction again because of the unvaccinated.

It sounds heartless, but those who willfully refuse to do anything to protect themselves do not deserve to be first in line for medical treatment. Doctors and nurses are exhausted and have been for months by these people. It’s traumatic for them, and many are leaving the profession.

Right-wing media have helped create a populace that believes in nonsense. Over the years, conservatives (better called extremists or radicals these days) have made education worse and caused many teachers to resign and others to refuse the profession completely. Now they’re doing the same to doctors and nurses. We already have a scarcity in some areas. It will probably get worse, especially since the rapacious private equity industry has bought rural hospitals and then closed them when they couldn’t support huge profit taking.

How many of our institutions will conservative extremist Republicans kill before voters start seeing a connection?

Sadly, your statement is spot-on correct. More and more, I feel like we are trying to beat back the ocean tide of right-wing bullshit with brooms. It is so disheartening and I fully agree that these people who are unvaccinated and clogging up the hospital systems should not be moved to the front of the line for treatment. They refused to do the right thing and protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated, wearing masks whenever needed and practicing social distancing.

for anti vaxxers, anti maskers to see that they are committing suicide? And trying to kill others with them. I can't find any sympathy for people who are willfully refusing the safety measures that are available, and are proving their life-saving effectiveness. I feel bad for people who are vaccinated, boosted, wear masks, social disatnce and everything, but catch Covid-19 from someone with no sense.

Guess not.

I don't see how he qualified for monoclonal antibody therapy, since he was not 65. I guess he'd never been vaccinated.

Because basically, that's what these anti-vaccination Morons are doing.

Aside from the obvious fact that they couldn't care less about the health and lives of others, they don't care enough about their own lives to get the stinking vaccine.
