Reeling liberals ready to ditch Manchin as rest of Dems hope for a deal

The House’s fiercest liberals are — so far — showing little to no interest in the Build Back Better remodeling required to win over Joe Manchin.

A day after Manchin’s bombshell rejection of their party’s social spending plan, leaders of the left are so frustrated that they are now calling on Democrats to ignore him altogether. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who helms the roughly 100-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, said Monday she would push the White House to take executive actions to enact some of President Joe Biden’s domestic agenda, despite widespread doubts among fellow Democrats about the effectiveness of such an approach.

After sustaining months of concessions meant to placate the Senate’s centrists, progressives say they are in no mood to substantially alter their bill any further. As they see it, the package Manchin rejected was already the scaled-back version of their ambitions.

“It is abundantly clear that we cannot trust what Sen. Manchin says,” Jayapal (D-Wash.) told reporters Monday. "No one should think that we are going to be satisfied with an even smaller package that leaves people behind or refuses to tackle critical issues like climate change.”

Sending him off to the Evil side of the aisle would mean Evil gained the levers of control in the Senate. Mitch McConnell would replace Chuck Schumer, GOP members of the Senate would take over the committees. They'd drive the agenda.

Let's not delude ourselves into thinking West Virginians really know what's in the bill. Most of them probably watch Fox, OAN or Newsmax (if they watch the news at all) and they no doubt think the BBB bill is a bunch of socialist hornswaggle.

Justice matters.

His policies go against what most of his constituents want. As long as he holds that seat, he promotes himself at Biden's expense. If the Democrats didn't the majority, the agenda would be to gain the majority, not what Manchin is blocking.

Is blocking this much important legislation what you want? I don't.

I am hoping he changes his mind somehow for some reason.

Typical divisive politico crap sowing division among Democrats, hoping judicial appointments by Biden would be completely blocked by the repukes majority if Manchin left, which I don’t think he will change parties, though it seems some would actually like that to happen just so they can say “they told you so”

Short thinking, long ter disaster if that would happen

Enough Democrats are going work forward to get something out of this setback

There is no other way. Need Manchin for the Senate majority to keep pushing appointments through. Have to think big picture. Let Manchin write the freakin bill so at least some things get done. Then have to put every ounce into the midterms. Tell voters if we get a few more Dems in office we can get more done. Make Manchin the bad guy on the stump if it works in some areas.

But have to keep the Senate as long as possible to get judges, etc. through.

Since they only call votes they know they will win, democratic leadership does not force manchin to vote against Biden and the party.

How many bills never come to a vote for fear of manchin's veto.

Manchin is a scumbag! A lying, smug corporate whore! He is the true definition of a DINO. He needs to be pressured to get with the program! Threaten to kick him off the committees he is on! Investigate his daughter for her role in the 2016 Epipen scandal! Put out executive orders against his bread & butter Big Coal! Stop treating him like a good old boy. Play hardball!
And it makes me sick to hear some people on this site say that we have to make nice with this fucking idiot because he "might" go over to the GOP if we don't kiss his ass enough! He's DESTROYING Biden's agenda! He may as well be a Republican! Ahh you say, but what about Biden's judicial nominees? We need that cocksucker to get them on the bench. How do we know he really will side with Biden's picks? What if he finds one "too liberal"? Are we supposed to appease him and say, "Okey-dokey we will find a more conservative one your majesty!" I am so fucking sick of this bullshit! Why give one person such control over the party?
Do you think for one minute that if the situation were reversed and Trump was President and we had a 50-50 split in the Senate that Mitch McConnell and Trump would put up with one Republican holding back Trump's agenda? No freaking way! They would rip him a new asshole and treat him like shit! Other Republicans would denounce him and treat him like a pariah! His Republican constituents would be sending him death threats by the truckload.
But Democrats have to be "nice" to Manchin! Maybe wag their fingers at him and go "Tsk, tsk!" Or if they are really serious, write him a letter telling him how disappointed they are in him. Yeah, that will show him! But don't forget to lick his boots every morning or else he will get mad!
Seriously who is in charge here? Obviously it is Joe Manchin! Hey here is a crazy idea. Maybe the Democratic leadership could grow a spine! Or instead of licking his ass, spank his ass! Wild huh?
If Biden doesn't get some stuff done soon the Democrats are in for a CRUSHING defeat in 2022. The GOP will control Congress and nothing will get done! We have ONE year to turn this shitshow around. And if we don't do something about that dipshit Manchin the Democrats are doomed!
