Search On For Wilton Manors Hit-&-Run Driver Who Struck 6 Children, Killing 2

WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) – Two children have died and four others have been hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash in Wilton Manors Monday afternoon.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the six children were struck in the 2400 block of NW 9 Avenue.

Witnesses on the scene said the kids were struck by a speeding driver who went around a stopped Broward bus.

“He was being impatient and went around the bus,” a witness recalled.

That split second decision was deadly.

“When he cut in front of me he went straight for the kids,” said bus driver Selvin Arjun.

1. Where I grew up, the town constable always followed my bus until it turned down a country road

But on the major state highway, he was there because people sometimes never stopped for the flashing red lights. When the bus driver blared his horn, all the others on the bus would turn and try to get the license plate for the driver before the constable followed us.

It was also his way of telling crossing students to stop in front of the bus. We also waited for the driver to wave us across the street. Horn went off, we stopped in front of the bus because someone was either passing on the right or blowing passed the stopped bus.

I almost got hit twice crossing the street. And when we petitioned NY to lower the speed limit in our hamlet from 55 to 40, they ignored us, as did the county and the town.

4. that is how bike riders

are killed too. A car waits to turn left and impatient people pass on the right taking out a bike rider who is riding on the right shoulder as required by state law. Some bike riders want to be able to ride against traffic now because driver has become so impatient.

5. That is right down the street from where I used to work

Pretty major five lane road. For those of you vaguely aware of the area, it is Powerline Road just out in front of Mills Pond Park.

Just awful. I hope they catch the bastard

I do wonder what they were using a school bus for today because school is definitely out.
