QAnon Star Who Said Only 'Idiots' Get Vax Dies of COVID
Source: Daily Beast
A leading QAnon promoter who urged both her followers and strangers she passed on the street not to take the COVID vaccine died Thursday of the coronavirus, making her just the latest vaccine opponent killed by the disease.
Cirsten Weldon had amassed tens of thousands of followers across right-wing social media networks by promoting the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy under the screenname CirstenW. She was prominent enough to become a sort of QAnon interpreter for comedian conspiracy theorist Roseanne Barr and started recording videos about QAnon with her.
In late December, however, Weldon started showing symptoms of coronavirus infection. In her last video, posted on Dec. 28, Weldon struggled through her remarks about the coming overthrow of the United States government, coughing and complaining that she was exhausted.
Three days later, Weldon was hospitalized in Camarillo, California. She posted a picture of herself wearing an oxygen mask to Instagram and claimed she had bacterial pneumonia. Weldon wrote in a post on the social media network Telegram that she refused to take coronavirus treatment remdesivir, calling it Dr Faucis Resmedervir (sic).

What is really hard to understand is not just how these folks are anti-Vax, but how they are big advocates of other remedies that were pedaled by Trump such as the horse dewormer.
Finally, the threats on hospital staff as being part of a deep state conspiracy to murder anti-Vaxxers is just scary.

(1,261 posts)I'll reserve my Human Sympathies for the folks who die:
1) from breakthrough cases
2) because they can't get medical treatment as a result of anti-vaxxers filling up hospitals
3) from being ineligible for the vaccine or booster, like children
4) because they can't get access to the vaccine, like most of the world
5) are immune compromised, due to other medical treatments or a medical condition
These antivaxxers aren't victims, they are willfully negligent. Like feeling sorry for someone who speeds through red lights and eventually gets t-boned by a truck. Being liberal does mean "equivalent compassion for all mortal victims". Liberalism is about being factually correct, not underserved compassion for Darwin Award candidate.

(30,469 posts)Refraining from overt sympathy is one thing, celebrating the death of one who'se only crime is ignorance is quite another.
Your claim that "liberalism is about being factually correct" is incorrect, though present day Trumpers
can make it seem that way. You see, before Trump, Conservatives and Liberals frequently AGREED on facts; it was their differing ATTITUDES toward those facts that distinguished them.
Liberals tend to be less judgemental toward those in need; Conversely, conservatives tend to be more judgmental, stressing "personal responsibility" and the need to "pull one's self up" by their bootstraps".
I think most here would agree that what distinguishes liberals from conservatives is tolerance and compassion, the latter being something Liberals rarely find someone "undeserving" of.

(12,667 posts)It was self righteous supiorority. It was her "I know everything" attitude. It was her willingness to hurt others that caused her death. She knew what she was doing. She was betting she would never get the illness. She was betting on the odds.
My step daughter and her family of 4 are anti-vaxxers and have never gotten vaccinated and have never gotten one of those deadly illnesses (well her children. Both her and her hubby were vaccinated when young.) that she has refused to get her family vaccinated for. She therefore thinks she's right not to get her family vaccinated. And we all know she has just been lucky so far.
This unfortunately dead woman knew there was a deadly virus out there, she just thought she was special and she wasn't going to get it. And if she did get it, she was betting on a very mild case. She was betting with her life and wanted the rest of us to do the same and she didn't care if we died doing it her way.
That is not ignorance. That is self righteous supiorority.

(69,364 posts)The scolding you're doing here is one reason why Democrats lose elections. You come across as self righteous, and at the same time, as someone who's easily fooled by other people.
It's called virtue signaling and nobody likes it. It's why Democrats have a reputation for being out of touch and snobby. It's why people think Republicans are "real" and "down to earth" in comparison.
Overall, it's not just a bad look for you, it's actively contributing to negative impressions of Democrats. Please think about this.

Similarly, I have no sympathy for this woman or any of her ilk who have or will end up like her. Frankly, Im completely apathetic towards the pain and suffering that she endured during her final moments. I CLEARLY stated who I reserved my sympathy for. I do not Thank God that she died, celebrate her misfortune, or wish similar misfortune on the folks like her.

(17,837 posts)You have Fox News quietly imposing fairly draconian COVID controls measures internally while FOx continues to promote anti-vax conspiracies. These folks are not only dying, but they are spreading the illness and their family members are getting sick and family members are being lost while Tucker Carlson and Fox knowingly promotes misinformation about the pandemic.
If we are not going to feel any sypathy for people who relied on such fraudulent information to their detriment, then why not repeal elder abuse and similar consumer protection laws.

(4,279 posts)In the face of these deaths, their surviving friends and supporters have started to allege that the dead QAnon figures are being murdered, either because they were refused internet folk remedies like ivermectin or hydroxychloroquine, or because they were killed by the deep-state to cover up their conspiracy theories. In December, Kuzma and a number of other conspiracy theorists were sickened with COVID-like symptoms after appearing together at a conference. Rather than acknowledge that they had COVID, the far-right influencers suggested they had been targeted by an anthrax attack
After Weldons death, her QAnon allies threatened to pursue violent action against staff at the hospital where she died. Scott McKay, a QAnon personality known as the Patriot Streetfighter, said he would publicize the names of doctors and nurses involved in treating Weldon, saying he wanted to put the fear into these medical professionals in a Telegram post. McKay proposed the hospital staff be sentenced to death, or be murdered in vigilante violence.
If its not done in a military tribunal then its going to be done in the street eventually and not to my wishes, McKay wrote. Thats my greatest fear. But if its necessary, its going to be necessary.

One of my overweight, out-of-shape, +50 aged cousins was persuaded by myself and other family members via Consistent Bickering and Scorn to get vaccinated. (291 posts)In addition to the side effects, the WHO doesn't recommend it either:
Remdesivir, also known as Veklury, and the steroid dexamethasone are the only drugs authorized to treat Covid-19 patients. But a recent massive global study of remdesivir's effectiveness, run by the WHO, showed that remdesivir had little or no impact on hospitalized patients, contradicting previous trials.
Remdesivir has no meaningful effect on mortality or on other important outcomes for patients, such as the need for mechanical ventilation or time to clinical improvement," experts from the WHO Guideline Development Group wrote in a statement. The review was published in The BMJ, a medical journal.
https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/remdesivir-shouldn-t-be-used-hospitalized-covid-19-patients-who-n1248320
This is so tricky - research is jaded even among good sources. Here the NEJM says the stuff is great, but the study is funded by the Big Pharm company that makes it:
