Manchin's $1.8 trillion spending offer is reportedly no longer on the table
Source: CNBC
U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s $1.8 trillion spending offer he proposed to the White House in late 2021 appears to be no longer on the table following a breakdown between the Democratic lawmaker from West Virginia and the White House, the Washington Post reported on Saturday. Manchin told reporters this week that he is no longer involved in discussions with the White House and has signaled privately that he is not interested in approving any legislation like President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Package, the newspaper said, citing three people with knowledge of the matter. Manchin’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The legislation is one of Biden’s signature domestic priorities. Manchin’s vote is critical in the evenly divided Senate. His opposition torpedoed Build Back Better in December, drawing ire from Democratic progressives and sending the political party scrambling to find a way to resurrect the package. Read more: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/08/manchins-1point8-trillion-spending-offer-is-reportedly-no-longer-on-the-table.html Should we have just taken his offer a couple of weeks ago? Or was it right to pass?

15. It is rather clear that he is not going to support any economic package put forward by President
Biden. He just wants to see how much he can have real Democrats kissing his ass. As my grandmother used to say "he's smelling himself". Screw him.

Years ago, someone made a cartoon of Joe Lieberman screwing a donkey. I think it's time to photoshop Manchin's head onto that image. (Walt Starr me if you must, but I had to say it.) |

20. Of course it isn't - get voting rights done, then make Manchin vote on BBB
After filibuster reform/voting rights is dealt with, Schumer should bring BBB to the floor, unaltered, and give Manchin a chance to go on the record as the one who destroyed Biden’s agenda, and along with it, the Child Tax Credit that 93% of WV parents qualify for, as well as the Black Lung Fund for WV’s miners.
Let Manchin own that vote, for it will be the vote that ends his Senate career. |

He had no intent of making that deal now or then. Had Democrats taken his offer, he would have come out shortly later to say they were misquoting him and he couldnt work with such dishonest folks.
