U.S. Reports Record 1.3M Covid Cases In A Day As Hospitalizations Soar

Source: NBC News/MSN

(2 hrs ago). The United States reported 1.34 million Covid cases on Monday, according to an NBC News tally, with the daily case rate shattering global records as hospitalizations soared across the country. At least 1,343,167 new Covid infections were identified on Monday, according to an NBC News' tally, sweeping past the previous record of 1,044,970 cases that had been set on Jan. 3.

Daily case counts are typically high on Mondays due to many states not reporting over the weekend. However, the number still suggests a dramatic rise in cases in the U.S. as the highly transmissible omicron variant continues to spread. It also represents the highest daily total recorded for any country in the world, according to Reuters, with the U.S. recording a total of 61,490,917 cases since the Covid-19 pandemic began as of Monday, according to NBC News' data.

The seven-day average for cases in the U.S. also reached its highest point yet on Monday, hitting an average of 740,594 cases per day, with 24 states reporting their highest 7-day average of all time. The record-high numbers came as Covid hospitalizations in the U.S. also soared, with the seven-day average for hospitalizations reaching 135,574 on Monday, up 83.1 percent in the last two weeks.

The surge in hospitalizations has been particularly noticeable in some Midwestern and mid-Atlantic states, according to an NBC News analysis of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Covid hospitalizations data. As of Monday, Washington, D.C.’s population-adjusted rate was the highest in the nation, followed by Ohio, New Jersey and New York’s...

As omicron spreads, hospitals also report a growing trend of patients admitted for other ailments also testing positive for Covid-19.

Doctors said the trend could mean more people are having asymptomatic or undiagnosed cases than the current data shows.

Or they still going with the kill as many as possible quickly as possible and get it it over with so corporations can make some more money they can funnel openly and secretly to us, Republicans trail?

The last one was the actual argument of Republicans in SCOTUS. Well, not the last part of that part, but it was unspoken.

Scared yet?

There are minority Republicans and many are nonpolitical. There are white liberals.

But when you look at party affiliation, one party is much more vaccinated while the other is self medicating with horse meds.

The percentage differences I have seen are fairly small. And where does this information come from? When I got my 3 shots no one asked me my political party. If they come from polls then I certainly would not trust them. Who is going to tell anonymous phone callers all that personal information? I wouldn't.

We would have a total of less than a million cases. Hell, we have near a million deaths let alone cases.

So that whole idea of letting Covid spread everywhere so that we in the US develop herd immunity was nothing more than a lazy man's way of saying he was doing Nothing and didn't really care who dies. Thanks Trump.

are like that High Advisor of the Stratos Council - Plasus - believing that such efforts as "masking" would be useless because the Troglytes are inferior to the dwellers of the cloud city because they never "evolved" the immunity of his own ancestors. Thus they are not worth the effort and he ultimately refuses the offer of masks for the workers (at least at that point in the episode). Then he doubles down to say that they (the UFP) have no right to interfere in the affairs of local planetary governments.

Covid: Half of Europe to be infected with Omicron within weeks - WHO

The World Health Organization has warned that half of Europe will have been infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 within six to eight weeks.

Dr Hans Kluge said a "west-to-east tidal wave" of Omicron was sweeping across the region, on top of the surge of the Delta variant already present.

The projection was based on the seven million new cases reported across Europe in the first week of 2022.

The number of infections has more than doubled in a two-week period.

Just in my city alone, people are testing positive at home and not reporting it to the health department. There were two in my household last week...we caught it from an employee who caught it from his extended family over the holidays and there were at least 18-20 of them...all unreported. Another employee of mine didn't gather with family over the holidays but the rest of the family did and they all caught covid...another 15+ people. The whole cross country team at one of the local high schools has covid...my nephew runs for that team...he has it too. Nobody reports to the health department because they're so understaffed that no one answers the phone. It is a shit show, unfortunately.

23,459 infections

60% vaccinated
40% not vaccinated
9% reinfection (recovered over the past 2 yrs, not classified vacc/non-vacc)
0.2% death rate

Infection rate up over 35%
COVID as a primary factor taking up only 10% of 4,700 beds

A much different picture from earlier variants, and very good news

I think the daily case rate is much higher as many people with minor sypmtoms or asymptomatic aren't getting tested or just doing home testing and go unreported. I'm guessing 10 million cases a day, maybe more. Eventually everyone will get it and the virus will burn itself out in the coming months. Africa is looking promising as case loads are decreasing with minimal casualties while most of their population is unvax.
