"We do actually have some breaking news to start with at this hour. We can report exclusively tonight that attorneys for former president Donald Trump have now met in person with the Fulton County district attorneys office in Georgia. Now it was months ago that we first learned that the prosecutor who leads that office had opened a criminal investigation into alleged violation of Georgia state law that occurred when election officials of Georgia were pressured and intimidated after the last presidential election that they should, effectively, falsified the results of that states election.
It was a year ago, January 3rd, last year, when The Washington Post published this shocking audio reporting of an extraordinary hour-long phone call that then-president Trump made personally to Georgias top elections officials telling him that he needed to find exactly the number of votes in the state that would allow Trump to falsely be declared the winner there.
Now, in Georgia, as in every state in the country, pressuring election officials to interfere with the lawful administration of an election, pressuring election officials to change election results, that of course is a crime. The state prosecutors office in Fulton County, Georgia, opened that investigation under Georgia state law. Pressuring or intimidating election officials is a Georgia state crime. Its a crime in every state in the country, and of course, its also a federal crime."

This is often the last step before prosecutors seek an indictment - giving the targets lawyers a chance to present evidence & argument as to why the target should not be indicted. Looks like Georgia MIGHT be the 1st out of the blocks to indict Trump. But they wont be the last.

(51,129 posts)Or are you just saying you know but you don't?
The rest of find out what DoJ is doing when they knock on someone's door with a search warrant at 5 AM. This was a federal crime too, so DoJ is probably involved and aiding the local jurisdiction in every way they can, or most certainly in the loop.

(21,628 posts)Day 27 since Garland received Meadow's criminal referral, I do know that. That's the case that was pushed on Garland and it's just for ignoring a subpoena.
Question for you, if you want, why is Garland taking so long with the Meadow's referral? I am pretty darn sure I know why.

"As much as I admire and respect the work that you do, in this instance its clear that you are reaching for anything that will allow you to claim that the DoJ is on the job when it comes to the coup attempt.
But there is no evidence that the investigation of Rudy has anything to do with the actual coup. Barrack is all about being a foreign agent not about the coup. Powell is about grift not a coup attempt. Alex Jones is not a Trump associate. And based on what you are claiming, the investigation into anonymous has nothing to do with the coup.
Leaving us with Roger Stone who has already demonstrated a willingness to be tried and convicted for obstruction to protect Trump, and was rewarded with a pardon for doing so. That is not exactly fertile ground for an investigation that will eventually charge Trump.
If Merrick Garland had any intention of rocking the boat, he would have asked at least one of the prosecutors that Mueller hired to come back to the DoJ and prosecute Trump on the Russia obstruction charges. But Garland has not done that "

(21,628 posts)A criminal referral or criminal recommendation is a notice to a prosecutory body, recommending criminal investigation or prosecution of one or more entities for crimes which fall into that body's jurisdiction.
In the U.S. federal government, regulatory and law enforcement agencies that investigate crimes must typically refer cases to the Department of Justice for prosecution at its discretion. These referrals may not require formal documentation, but may include a case report. In a direct referral, agencies refer cases to the U.S. Attorney in the district where the crime occurred.[1] The United States Congress and its members, in their investigative role, issue criminal referrals to the Justice Department as well.[2]

(51,129 posts)There is a very explicit procedure, which I explained. Some random wiki entry isn't the pertinent law.

(6,450 posts)I'm thinking of the politics of it all.
If a right wing state can convict with the evidence on hand -so can the DOJ - and the DOJ would be then more free from political adversity.
That's my best guess.
TFG is not getting off the hook.

(21,628 posts)of course Trump is getting off the hook for that phone call. There is no guarantee that the state will indict, it appears to be headed that way, we shall see.

(7,290 posts)This report doesn't mention WHEN prosecutors met with the defeated psychopath's lawyers, I infer this was a recent event based on this reporting. If true, why on earth are they just meeting with them now in context of timing of 2020 elections and the upcoming campaign for the next?

(18,740 posts)...they're tired of the endless investigations and so called "witch hunts". If the Congress keeps investigating they're liable to turn up crimes committed.
They don't even want to defend themselves against accusations anymore.
