BREAKING: Djokovic has lost his appeal

Source: CNN

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has lost his appeal against the Australian government's decision to cancel his visa for a second time.

The 20-time grand slam champion had been scheduled to play against fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic at the Australian Open, which begins Monday.

It's not yet clear whether Djokovic will still be allowed to compete, with some legal options left.

Personally I have no problem with an anti vaxxer who lied on his entrance visa being deported.

So what does this mean?

OK so that's the news we've been waiting all day to hear.

As Chief Justice James Allsop outlined before announcing the decision, the court's job was simply to consider whether the decision made by Immigration Minister Alex Hawke was unlawful, irrational or legally unreasonable.

The court found the grounds outlined by Novak Djokovic's lawyers failed to demonstrate that.

It means the decision made by the Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to cancel his visa stands.

Djokovic will be deported from Australia, will be unable to compete in the Australian Open and may face a ban on entry to Australia of up to three years.

... who gets to enter the Australian Open, taking Djokovic's spot.

Doubly lucky, he not only gets to play, but he gets the "Seeded" spot against a low-ranking player. They won't re-juggle the seeding at this late date.

Best of luck to Salvatore!

And, the arrogant rantings of his family + legal team only made the situation worse for him.

'Disappointed' Djokovic leaves Australia after losing deportation fight (France24/Reuters)

Novak Djokovic, the No.1-ranked player in men's tennis, boarded a plane and left Australia on Sunday after the Federal Court upheld a government decision to cancel his visa on the grounds that his decision not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 posed a risk to the country.

After a roller-coaster ride of events, the unanimous ruling by a three-judge bench dealt a final blow to Djokovic's hopes of chasing a record 21st Grand Slam win at the Australian Open.

The Serbian player went to the airport in Melbourne just hours after the decision. Federal agents escorted him and his team from the business lounge to the gate, where he boarded an Emirates flight bound for Dubai. The flight took off shortly before 11 pm (1200 GMT).

IMHO. However, there should have been an announcement before all of this started, when it was learned from his Instagram account that he took a picture, then he said that he fully intended to take the 20 plus hour flight to Australia to play in the 2022 AO Open. The officials should have stopped him at that point, and this whole thing should have been gone over and hashed things out with Djokovic. IF Nole had won his appeal to not be deported, this would have sent a horrible message to non-vaxxers. The people who actually live in Oz have every right to ask their government to protect them and they DID. I know he's probably the best male tennis player ever, but WHY should he get special treatment and not be vaxed like others who live there are?

While there is blame to go around, MOST of the blame for him not playing in the 2022 AO Open lies at Nole's feet. He's anti-vax which is his right, but if you are not vaxed and try to enter Oz Land, you cannot come into the country unless you have an underlying medical problem where being vaccinated could do you a lot of harm physically. He tried to get around that with the anti-body explanation, stating that he had covid, but that was fish as well because that time frame changed per Spiegel online who did a deep dive into his PCR test date completion. There was fishy paperwork, and worst of all Nole was traveling and attending events with children and others not wearing a mask, and he did an interview as well, although he did socially distance and mask up, but it's still was irresponsible for him to travel with covid if he allegedly really did have it during the time he said he knew he had it (Serbia, his home country doesn't allow people in there who haven't been FULLY vaccinated, and that's a WHOLE other can of worms for him since that's his country of birth, although he lives in Monte Carlo as to avoid paying taxes). He also went to Spain, and there were several other things surrounding this whole thing on his end that didn't add up or make sense. I guess he can try to win #21 in France at the FO, because their rules are lax unless they change their mind about anti-vaccinated Nole coming into France, but if Rafa Nadal's foot holds up he'll have something to say about Nole winning 2 FO titles in consecutive years because Rafa himself is tied with Nole--having won 20 singles grand slam titles and he's gunning for #21 on HIS best surface, and to top it off Nole could lose his #1 ranking if either #2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia or #3 Sasha Zverev of Germany hoist the championship cup 7 rounds from Tuesday.

The US Open will be a different story if he can't make it happen at the FO unless the USTA in NY does an El Foldo and is bullied by the GQP US Taliban Party in this country who are mostly anti-vax, shit holes who'll probably be saying that he should be allowed to play in the 2022 US Open in NY.

I'm so glad this is over ..... for now.

he is against vaccinations, and why he was with a bunch of kids the day after he tested positive.

Is it the Boris Syndrome, ie rules don't apply to me because I'm important?

He has the freedom to not be vaccinated, stupid as that is, but he does NOT have the right to expose others, a bunch of kids in this case, to danger knowing he is positive.

Good tennis player, horrible person. So are those protesting in the streets, horrible people.
