Florida tornadoes destroy dozens of homes, leave 7,000 customers without power

Source: CNN

By Claudia Dominguez, Joe Sutton and Gene Norman,

(CNN)Two tornadoes struck southwest Florida Sunday morning, destroying at least 28 homes and damaging others in Lee County, while leaving about 7,000 houses there without power, officials said.

The tornadoes were generated by the same storm system that brought freezing rain and snow to other parts of the East Coast, where more than 50 million people Monday morning were under winter weather alerts.

As of early Monday morning, the storm system had knocked out power to more than 180,000 customers in its path, according to PowerOutage.us.

In a Sunday news conference, Cecil Pendergrass, co-chairman of the Lee County board of commissioners, said at least 62 homes were currently "unlivable."

Lost to Covid. As Paxton in Texas says, “ a needed sacrifice for the economy”. Same for lose of life to climate change devastation. All those deaths are patriotic sacrifices for the economy is how the paid for climate deniers feel about them. Fires, tornadoes, super storms, summer and winter, no worries. The Economy thanks all those patriotic sacrificials. But, Manchin’s coal billionaires are doing just fine, and in control of BBB and climate policies.
Thoughts and prayers are their answer, they are free. We should tax thoughts and prayers for guns and climate disasters.

So much for leadership.

Yesterday DeSantis took to Twitter to offer his prayers for those impacted by the storms. He says the Florida Division of Emergency Management response teams will be available to help.

18 hours ago he posted a video with a token Black mom standing up in the audience:
"Moms across our state are standing up for a principle that is the policy of the state of Florida: Our tax dollars should not be used to teach our kids to hate our country or to hate each other."
