Lawsuit details claims against one of Murdoch's 'closest cronies'

Source: Sydney Morning Herald

In a working life that has stretched from the Dubbo Daily Liberal to the New York Post and encompassed allegations of wrecking Australian prime ministers to eating burgers with Donald Trump in the Oval Office, former News Corp editor Col Allan has scaled the heights of tabloid infamy.

However, the career of the former editor-in-chief of the New York tabloid and friend of Rupert Murdoch soured this week as he faced accusations of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed by a former colleague.

Michelle Gotthelf, editor-in-chief of the Post’s website until last Wednesday, said in her lawsuit that Allan, who edited Sydney’s Daily Telegraph before taking over the Post in 2001, had resigned from the Post in 2016 after she alerted executives that he was a bully who propositioned her for sex.

Gotthelf’s suit, filed on Tuesday in the US District Court, names News Corporation, NYP Holdings, Allan and current Post editor Keith Poole.

She said Allan’s harassment of her “peaked” in the autumn of 2015 when she was the newspaper’s metro editor. The two were having drinks after an editors’ dinner meeting when Allan said that “we should sleep together,” she said in the lawsuit.

“Mr Allan’s request that Ms Gotthelf sleep with him was the culmination of several years of sex- based harassment that Ms Gotthelf had to endure because, according to Mr Allan, Ms Gotthelf reminded him of his wife,” the lawsuit says.

As Rupert Murdoch once said about sexual harrassment in his organization: "Sure a little bit of flirting might have gone on..."

How this has happened so long, to so many people, is astonishing!

Power to the people, not the perverts.

Corporate media is owned by these motherf***ers.

3. This article is a few years old, but it has a good summary of who owns our media.

I know that Rupert Murdoch and Peter Thiel support Republican causes, as does the Cox family and Sheldon Adelson’s widow. I haven’t looked up who is behind Sinclair Broadcasting, but they are little better than Fox.

The Sulzberger family still runs the New York Times, and I have believed for a long time that they are big supporters of Republican causes. Their coverage of the Clintons over the years was mostly negative, and their coverage during the 2016 election gave Trump a big boost.

Bezos supposedly does not influence the Washington Post’s coverage, but I have certainly seen a decline since he purchased the company. The influence is not in directly telling people what to publish but rather in the choosing of the people who run the organization, who do tell reporters what to publish. Especially since the Afghanistan withdrawal, the Post article writers and editors have been completely negative toward Biden and Democrats. And the Post continues to publish Hugh Hewitt, a complete Republican toady who hasn’t had an original idea in his life.
