Biden: 'Distinct Possibility' Russia Will Invade Ukraine

Source: Voice of America News

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Joe Biden Thursday warned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy there is a “distinct possibility” that Russia could invade Ukraine next month, according to a White House statement.

“President Biden said that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians could invade Ukraine in February,” Emily Horne, the White House National Security Council spokesperson said. “He has said this publicly, and we have been warning about this for months.”

Russia said Thursday there was “little ground for optimism” that tensions would ease in Eastern Europe after the United States rejected its demand that Ukraine be banned from NATO membership and that the West pull back its troop deployment and weaponry from countries bordering Russia.

The threat of an open war between Russia and Ukraine is coming from Western governments, which appear to be actively working to make it happen, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, adding that neither Moscow or Kiev wants such a scenario.

The comment came during a daily briefing where spokesman Alexey Zaytsev cited statements by top Ukrainian security officials, which downplayed the threat of so-called Russian aggression, as evidence that the current escalation of tensions has been fuelled by the West.

“Our nation has likewise repeatedly stated that we have no intention to attack anyone,” he said. “We consider the very thought that our people may go to war against each other unacceptable.”

While Kiev and Moscow seek to avert hostilities, “Ukraine’s foreign sponsors have other ideas and appear determined to implement the scenario, according to which Russia must attack Ukraine,” and face Western retaliation for it, the Russian official added...

then draw down your troops. The Russians are full of BS. Let's not forget the Japanese government circa WWII. They were talking the same line as Russia is today right up to the moment they bombed Pearl Harbor.

A long time. It looks more like a prep area than a simple exercise. We'd be fools to ignore this and wait until the deed is done to react. Once he races across the border and into the country, he'll take what he wants, then stand there and dare us to do anything.

So, Ukraine wants talking room. Excuse me, but didn't we do this already? It's all BS. The West does not want to start WWIII. Russia simply wants to deny the optics of it all. History will deal with them harshly. Maybe Ukraine wants to make a deal. Then, quit crying to us about what is surely going to happen. Oh, well...
