January 6 committee subpoenas individuals tied to fake elector push

(CNN)The January 6 Select Committee has issued subpoenas for 14 Republicans from seven states who served on bogus slates of Trump electors in 2020 as part of the Trump campaign's scheme to subvert the Electoral College.

The GOP leaders from the states served as "Chair" and "Secretary" on the slates of fake electors designed to be alternates should Republicans succeed in denying the certifications of the actual electoral votes that were won by Joe Biden.

The scheme didn't work, and then-Vice President Mike Pence certified the election results on January 6 when the congressional session reconvened after being interrupted by a mob of pro-Trump rioters.

"The Select Committee is seeking information about attempts in multiple states to overturn the results of the 2020 election, including the planning and coordination of efforts to send false slates of electors to the National Archives" said Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, who chairs the committee, of this batch of subpoenas. "We believe the individuals we have subpoenaed today have information about how these so-called alternate electors met and who was behind that scheme."

I thought that since the justice department is investigating, they would stay out of the way. I would imagine there could be issues related to that. For a start, all those recipients of the subpoenas could ignore them saying they can not comment because its under investigation.

it leads me to believe that DOJ is investigating the evidence that the Michigan AG gave it.

I am still waiting for someone who was not involved in the riot part of the coup to be arrested. So far none.

Today is day 44 since the select committee issued the Mark Meadows' criminal referral.

What the people's House does is work in tandem with the DOJ over national election fraud. The J6 committee will turn over what it gets to the DOJ for the justice we expect. You'll see.

we are screwed, do you know how long that takes? It is day 44 since the select committee sent the Mark Meadows' criminal referral to DOJ. Name me one case of an arrest of someone who wasn't involved in the riot part of the coup. Give me one name.

we're screwed, and am not sure why you think that. And no amount of "it's not fast enough or tough enough" is a fair argument.

The reportage on this will keep this issue before the public, and trust me, the youth demographic my son's in is ready to vote the hell out of 2022. Alex Jones.

Point is, we need to let them do their jobs.

With 178 convictions out of 355 indicted by grand juries, those out of the 731 rounded up and charged since last Jan -- by a DOJ only constituted only for the last nine months, during March, April and May; and with over 350 interviews and thousands of evidentiary documents reviewed by a Jan 6 committee constituted only for the last five months since July -- we will be seeing the highest scale of justice being done in the world over the next ten months, no matter the outcome of the 2022 election.

Seriously. People are trending toward waves of frustration here, but rule of law is working.

I praise the select committee, but the select committee has no power to arrest or to indict. I can't wait for its public presentations, but those presentations won't hold a single person accountable who was behind the planning of the coup.

I admire your positive thinking. I just want to see one person who was not involved in the riot part of the coup arrested.

As far as time goes, this is an election year and that means that DOJ will not get involved in matters that may affect the election, unless DOJ hires James Comey.

precedence building, which too many people here keep forgetting is necessary so as not to have convictions overturned. This is the first time in US history for this. Right?

Those J6 presentations are THE context for the public to learn why all the convictions and high level trials will be valid.

J6 presentations will be a national lesson in rule of law. The are the national story of why democracy works.

I just want to see one person who was not involved in the riot part of the coup arrested.

Seriously? Elmer Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers leader, now in jail and denied bail on sedition charge, with ten more to join him!

Of course the DOJ will be involved in matters that "may" affect the election! You don't think the nationwide arrests and convictions and reports on higher ups' indictments won't bring out voters?

Like Obama say, Come ON!

DOJ left it up to the Fulton county DA.

DOJ has a lot more clout, a lot more resources than the select committee or the states. It appears to me that DOJ is going out of its way to not appear partisan. If DOJ decides to go for an indictment of Mark Meadows, Fox News will rain down holy hell on them.
