Twitter says it has quit taking action against lies about the 2020 election
Source: CNN
(CNN)Twitter quit taking action to try to limit the spread of lies about the 2020 election, the company said on Friday -- a day after another social media platform, YouTube, removed a Republican congressman's campaign ad because it included a 2020 lie.
Twitter spokesperson Elizabeth Busby told CNN on Friday that "since March 2021," Twitter has not been enforcing its "civic integrity policy" in relation to lies about the 2020 election. That was the policy under which the company had suspended or even banned users for lying about the 2020 election, affixed fact-check warning labels to tweets containing such lies and limited others' ability to share those inaccurate tweets.
The civic integrity policy still exists, Busby said in an email, but it is "no longer" being applied to lies about the 2020 election in particular. Busby said that's because the policy is designed to be used "during the duration" of an election or other civic event, and "the 2020 U.S. election is not only certified, but President Biden has been in office for more than a year."
Lies about the 2020 election, however, have never gone away. In fact, they continue to play a major role in American politics.

Lie loud enough and long enough and your lie will prevail.

(11,142 posts)After all, we can't risk losing one customer over morals or ethics, now can we? And, since it seems that these days most of the users of social media are either teens trying to be famous or lunatics trying to destroy everything, they certainly are not going to alienate the majority of their customers.

(41,631 posts)I'm not a Twitter user myself. But if I were I'd seriously think about quitting that snake-pit now. They aren't even pretending that they care any more. They're leaving it all up to the individual users to do their own policing, and even that isn't assured.
If you can't block the ugly lies, if reporting them does nothing, then it's probably time to leave.

(518 posts)Initial unemployment claims dropped from 812,750 to 210,750
The unemployment rate is down from 6.4 to 3.9%
There was a LOSS of jobs the previous year of 9.4% and then a 6.4% of job creation or over a 15% swing in the positive direction. (In both years we had Covid headaches to deal with).
The $1.9 trillion Covid relief deal.
The $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.
Getting 72% of American adults fully vaccinated (and increasing)
Getting federal judges appointed and confirmed.
An economy where the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.9%.
The newest statistic to add to the list is that our GDP grew 5.7% this past year, the highest it has grown in 40 years.
So when we start to say the truth often enough, maybe the middle of the road folks will get the picture. I know negativity sells, I know. Clicks matter in the online world, but kitchen table issues and pocketbook issues matter more to the average American.
As the efforts of the infrastructure bill are felt and more Americans have GOOD paying jobs, the good news should increase. If main-street media wont report it, then we need to, starting now.
